Summer passed all to quickly and many things happened, some rather sad and some good. Ralph Bauman, our classmate now living in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, suffered a stroke in June of this year. Kathryn, his wife, wrote that there was no paralysis but slight brain damage. We are all thinking of you, Ralph, and wish you a quick recovery. Also in June, Charles (Mose) H. Linscott passed away after enduring two major operations. Mose was apparently coming along nicely. Your secretary and "Bill" Mason visited him at the Glover Memorial Hospital, Needham, Mass. and he seemed chipper and in excellent spirits. We Purposely omitted talking about our various ailments and talked about the good times we had in Hanover. A few days after he returned home, his condition suddenly worsened and he was rushed to the hospital. Eloise telephoned that he died at the hospital the 29th June. Your secretary represented the class at his funeral. Eloise his wife, a son John H. and two grandchildren survive him. We have lost a loyal classmate and Dartmouth, a man who worked unceasingly for the College. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to his wife and family.
"Bob" Conant attended his 62nd reunion of graduation from Keene N. H. high school. They attended church and the pastor offered a special prayer for Ben and Marion Andrew who lost their son at sea. His body was eventually recovered. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Ben and Marion for this tragic loss.
A Setter from Bill Towler gives us more sad news, Joe Barnett, our incomparable class news man and an indefatigable worker for the Class and Dartmouth suffered a stroke August 11. His left side is paralyzed, and he has to be fed intravenously, but his mind is clear. "Joe" is under treatment at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. We hope he will recover the use of his side and his speech. A card from Pat Maloney saying that he had written Joe. Marie replied that his letter lifted Joe's spirits a great deal. Marie says his doctor considers his condition satisfactory and he is taken to therapy twice a day but is exhausted when he returns to his room each time.
Now for some cheering news: "Bill"Towler had the pleasure of a visit from Rea Bronk and they had a grand old powwow. Bill also attended the class officers meeting in June and was the sole '13er present.
The class is to be congratulated for the fine showing in the Alumni Fund Drive. We just missed another Green Derby by the narrowest of margins and finished well up in the rankings. A complete report from "Bill" Terry confirms the fine showing. He writes me in a footnote that he received a letter from "Win" Snow '14 and pictures of the grill room gang of which they were members. This brought him happy memories of the old days long gone.
A fiftieth wedding anniversary is a special event for any one. So it was for Bart and Renza Shepard. The party was sponsored by their children, Alan Jr. and Polly, and was held at the Nashua Country Club on a fine day in August. Present to enjoy the occasion were Elmer Tucker, Nelson and Ruth Gay, and the Wrights of Reading, Mass. In the receiving line to welcome over two hundred guests were Alan and Renza, Alan Jr., the astronaut and his wife and Polly and her husband.
Next month an account of Nelson Gay's 81st birthday will appear.
