Having just returned from three glorious weeks in New Hampshire where the air is clean and the well water is cold and sweet, it is no mean task to settle down to the obligation of meeting a monthly Alumni Column deadline. In fact, the deadline was not met and there's not much to say pending receipt of the deluge of mail which your secretary hopefully looks forward to.

Your secretary has just joined the club of those sending the first child off to college. Number one daughter Susan Mary was just deposited at Hollins College just outside of Roanoke, which is an absolutely delightful place. I recommend it to those of you with daughters.

The early news is extremely sad. BobPinto passed away on June 23 after a hard battle with cancer and Charles Edison died suddenly of a heart attack on July 3 while vacationing in Aspen, Colorado. Bob's wife Carol resides at 8 Dover Avenue, Garden City, Long Island 11530, and Charles' wife Threde resides at 26 Braeburn Drive, St. Louis, Mo. 63124. While the details will be contained in the obituary section of the Alumni Magazine either this month or next, the deepest sympathy of the Class goes to the families of both Bob and Charles.

Herb Marx has been elected vice president of industrial relations ,for General Cable Corporation, we've learned via a press release from that organization. He has been with General Cable since 1951 and has been director of industrial relations since 1969. Now he is responsible for labor relations and personnel activities throughout the country. Herb's proficiency in the fields of labor and personnel relations has been recognized by both the business and general press, and he has edited a ten-volume series of texts including three on private and public management relations. Before joining General Cable, Herb was for six years on the editorial staff of Scholastic Magazines.

Dick Rudolph of Kingston, Pa., operates Nationwide Tire Company of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., which distributes tires all over the United States. Their high school son Richard has an eye on Dartmouth. BurrowsBarstow, Jr., whose avocation is sailing on the Chesapeake, has a daughter who graduated last June from Colby Junior College. Burrows works for Metal Edge Industries in Philadelphia. Bob Scott of Moorestown, N. J., has retired as chief pilot for Crown Cork and Seal Company in Philadelphia and commenced a new career as Director of Athletics at Moorestown Friends School where he once played soccer.

Bigelow Canada, Ltd. has announced that Frank Hartmann has been made president and chief operation officer. His headquarters are in Ste. Agathe, site of the company's manufacturing facility (and good skiing country). Frank joined Bigelow-Stanford, Inc. in December of last year as vice president for corporate development. He previously was with Monsanto Company as a director of marketing (carpet and rugs). Frank is also a member of the board of directors of the Carpet and Rug Institute, an officer and director of Hartmann's Department Store in Huntington, L. I., and a director of Sports Fraternity. Bound to be a Bigelow on at least one of those floors.

Dan O'Connor here in Washington is now producing films for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, while JohnHutchinson of Williamsville, N. Y. is in educational T.V. in Buffalo. Bill Robinson out in Westhampton Beach, Long Island, is still in the newspaper publishing business on the Island. He indicates hope for getting up to the Fall Reunion. Maybe he will be joined by Kev Kenny from Hartford, whose son Kevin is entering Dartmouth with the class of 1975. Graham Conklin up in Montclair also plans to attend the Fall Reunion.

Speaking of the Fall Reunion, it will be October 1-3, the weekend of the Holy Cross "game and will have come and gone by the time you read this. Your secretary will have a full report in the November issue. In the meantime, keep the news flowing.
