A Fifty-Year Veteran's medal was awarded recently by the Wayfarers Lodge, A.F. & A.M., of Swampscott, Mass., to Ken Hussey. Ken joins two of his brothers who have received similar awards. Both are still living. This bodes well for you, Ken. Congratulations.

Ben Pearson reports fair health despite his June, 1970 upset. He continues to keep his eye on the affairs of the Byfield, Mass. bank with which he has had long association. Deer hunting at his camp in Maine has top priority on his schedule.

William "Kinney" Smith writes from Sheboygan, Mich., that he is spending the entire winter in Florida and plans a really long trip next year—destination and itinerary as yet undetermined.

From Sarasota, Fla., comes a brief message from Charlie Stevens that the Stevens are "on the way to Europe, especially the Greek Isles." Bon voyage. Charlie.

Writing of Sarasota reminds us that George and Hazel Macomber flew up from the south to attend the Dartmouth-Penn game in early October. George retrieved his two overcoats from BillCarter's cellar; crashed the Holbrook party with Hazel; and supplied Etna Village with more excitement than that sleepy hamlet has had for years. Never a dull moment when George and Hazel are hereabouts.

The Howard Hitchcocks have disposed of their West Hartford, Conn., home and have taken up retirement residence at 34 Red Oak Drive, Southington, Conn. 06489. Howie has also bought a mobile home in Seminole, Fla., which the Hitchcocks will occupy during the winter months. Good planning, Howard. Have a nice winter.

Regretfully we report the passing of Frieda, beloved wife of Arthur Pfeiffer, on September 3, 1971. After 53 years of operation Art has closed his shoe manufacturing business. He now resides at 190 Oak Crest Drive, Framingham, Mass., 01701. Art is thinking seriously of a move to Scottsdale, Ariz., to join his son, Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer at Taliesin West where Bruce stands high in the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.

Lowell Holway writes about an East African safari last February and March which took him into Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Lowell has taken up chess as a hobby and finished second in the Connecti- cut Amateur Open Championship. He reports also playing postal chess and getting into the semi-finals. (P. M. General Blount, please note. This may make a difference in the annual deficit.) Also a granddaughter has arrived in the Holway family bringing the total of grandchildren to three.

From the capital of the Nation, Dr.Herb Marshall sends a brief message "Working hard running from work." The whole truth, Herb?

Dick Watts, who had planned to attend the Penn game in Hanover, headed southward instead to visit his daughter in Richmond, Va. The Yale game, perhaps, is in your plans, Dick?

Charlie Sargent reports returning from an extensive motor trip just before Labor Day. The Sargents' main objective was a Masonic meeting in Helena, Mont. They ended up by traversing 22 states, two provinces, and visiting three countries. Charlie says he likes New England best, even the State of "Taxachusetts."

Charlie and Elsa Crathern report the loss of a daughter in Washington, D. C. We extend to them our heartfelt sympathy. Later this year they are visiting a daughter and granddaughter on the West Coast.

From Warrie Chamberlain in Florida comes the message that he has ended a 60year sabbatical from golf, feeling the need of some exercise. His son-in-law, Timothy Foote, is Senior Editor of Time Magazine and Audrey his wife and the Chamberlain's daughter did the translation of "The Raft of the Medusa" which was written by the head of the underground during World War II.

A recipe from Howie Parks, '18, comes in response to my inquiry about the ingredients of "Cherry Bounce"—for the benefit of Sherry Baketel. This drink, writes Howie, is known as "The Dartmouth Drachm" for originally it honored the Earl of Dartmouth. It contains one jigger of Italian Vermouth; one jigger of Old Tom Gin (any good gin will do); and a generous dash of Benedictine. Mix the ingredients thoroughly; pour over cracked ice in a small glass, containing a Maraschino cherry. Sip slowly.

Christmas greetings to one and all. May 1972 bring each of you many blessings!
