By the time you read this, the snow in Hanover will probably be two feet deep and the football season will be a cherished memory (9 and 0, 6 and 3, or somewhere in between).
At the time of this writing, however, your scribe and family have just returned from a wonderful weekend in Hanover, centered around the 17-15 last minute win over Yale. New Route 89 provides spectacular views on a bright August morning, and takes just 45 minutes from Concord, where our daughter Hillary is one of the women's lib pioneers at St. Paul's. Incidentally, for those who want to spend a day in Hanover but get a good sleep away from the scene, there are three large, modern motels near the Concord entrance to 89.
A deep chilling fog had settled along the river valley, but by 10:15 the sun had polished it off, and the rest of the day was an example of glorious New England Indian summer. The Executive Committee met on Kimball's back porch; Jackie provided coffee for all, and Bob brought out the very last case of Reunion beer cans, which disappeared in no time.
Among the classmates encountered in the course of the weekend, mostly with wives, were Harvey White, Frank Cole, Bob Kimball, Dave Weld, Frank Ettari, Don Furber, Bud Scheu, Jack Whitman, Earle Angstadt, Phil Struhsacker, Walt Snickenberger (whose son Tom is the quarterback of a fine freshman team), Jack Ulrich, Bob Albrecht, Buol Hinman, Jud Hannigan, Rob Smith, Ham Bailey, Chip Coleman, Bob Hooper, Bill de Stefano, Sam Johnson and Jack Underhill.
After the game, many of the Class headed for Pierce's, Reg and Nancy's delightful hostel at Etna. (Take Route 10 north 1.4 miles past the Chieftain Motel, turn right on Pineo Road, and take the left fork onto paved road at top of the hill). A magnificent meal (lobster thermidor, turkey casserole, strawberry parfait, and all the trimmings) was served in a typically congenial Pierce atmosphere.
On the day of the Yale game, the Daily Dartmouth carried a full-page item on page 3, headed by the colorful logo of "46/25", as follows: "A Salute to ...
