A highly unscientific poll taken at a December 18 luncheon of the Dartmouth Club of Chicago indicated that coeducation, while apparently a subject of some interest in Hanover, isn't very important to the prospective freshmen, at least not in Chicago. Pete Brown '63, admissions officer for the Midwest, was the guest speaker, and he asked the several high school seniors there — including six already accepted at Dartmouth — how they viewed the lack of women at the College. One said he would prefer to see Dartmouth coed, another said he was looking at Dartmouth because it's a men's school, and 14 said they didn't care.

Three undergraduates talked briefly on college life. Gift Foley '69 of Winnetka, a service returnee and former football player, lavished praise on what later turned out to have been Bob Blackman's last Dartmouth team. Gary Johnson '73 of Chicago, a black pre-medical student headed for the University of Mainz for the spring term, described black studies, foreign study and off-campus programs, saying the student exchange with Wellesley is the "most ardent." John Rockwell '72 of Oak Park covered the Outing Club and other extracurricular activities, and urged alumni to subscribe to The Dartmouth. "They send it out only two weeks after it's published," he said. John turned out to be a staffer of WDCR.
