Charlie Donovan, Cal Osberg, EdLider and your secretary attended the class officer's meeting at Hanover on the weekend of April 30-May 1. Without a doubt the number 1 topic of discussion was the question of coeducation. In summary, there was considerable relief (1) that Dartmouth is at least standing back to take a look at the problems of coeducation as they have arisen at places such as Yale and Princeton and (2) that the trustees have determined to defer decision at least until next fall after a further and independent feasibility review.
A major result of the weekend was the determination to set up a commit tee composed of two representatives from each of the class officer groups to meet in Hanover in June for presentation and discussion of the coeducation problem Your secretary's reaction was that there is a strong valid concern on the part of President Kemeny and the administration of the college that precipitous action should not be taken with respect to the question of coeducation at Dartmouth.
For those of you who have been wondering how applications have been going at Dartmouth Eddie Chamberlain reported that last year Dartmouth had an increase in the number of applicants and that the ratio of offers to applicants was one in four on the overall and two out of three for sons of alumni.
