RETIRING CLASS SECRETARY

'Twas a superb reunion, thanks to George(Sonny) Peters and his hard-working committee. More than 125 '55s, plus wives and children, enjoyed sunny weather, remarkably fine food, and getting caught up with each other.

John Dell Isola, taking time out from his TWA cockpit, brought the house down repeatedly at the class banquet. As MC, he related the hazards of flying into Rome and of spending too much time in the class tent at a Dartmouth reunion—though he was talking about Red Hennigar in the latter instance. The class presented awards—the bronze Dartmouth bicentennial medal, struck by the U.S. Mint after authorization by an act of Congress—encased in lucite, with appropriate inscription, to RandyHayes for his six years as class agent, and to Sonny Peters for his reunion leadership. Sonny was further rewarded—if that's the proper term—by being elected the new class president, succeeding Jon (Tim) Anderson.

Pete Thompson succeeded Randy as head agent, and John Dell Isola replaced Hart Perry as newsletter editor.

Tennis, everyone? It has obviously become the class's favorite sport. Among the smooth-stroking players on the courts were Ace and Dort Hall, Harry and MargieAmbrose, AI and Carolyn Murray, Chetand Debbie Gale, Swifty and NancyLawrence, 12-year-old Kevin Lewis and 14- year-old Kent Mathewson.

Kevin's parents, Harry and TanyaLewis, reported adopting a baby girl, Valerie, and both Web and RosemarieWilde and John and Peggy Dinan were definitely expecting new additions. John revealed somewhat belatedly that John III was born Nov. 26, 1969.

Dick and Debbie Roberts commuted from their country estate at Jaffrey, N.H., and Bud Bombard went up and down in the huge blue balloon he carted to Hanover in the truck of his Chalet Club.

Roy (Sky) Hill and Dave Conlan organized the '55 caucus for a future power play in the Dartmouth Club of Puerto Rico. Roy has recently taken over the top spot in the Caribbean subsidiary of Nebraska Consolidated Mills, and Dave became managing partner in Arthur Andersen & Co.'s San Juan office, with a staff of 100.

The Chicago area produced a good turnout, considering distance involved, including Warren Peterson, Chuck Hulsebosch, Sky Huntoon, John Rossiter, the aforementioned Ambrose and the outgoing class secretary, not to mention Jim Nelsen from Milwaukee.

Lyn Brock was facing bravely up to the Teamsters in managing his Philadelphia-area food service company, and U. S. Navy historian Dean Allard was recalling that he had tried to obtain the Pentagon's Vietnam study two years ago, but without success.

Don Woods was pleased to say that he had been named a full professor of finance at the Georgia College of Business in Atlanta, and erstwhile engineer Pete Buhler revealed that he's become a money manager with Continental Investment Co in Boston.Pete Fishbein, who had a winner in Robert F. Kennedy but fared worse when he tried to help Arthur Goldberg defeat a Dartmouth man, one Rockefeller, said he was happy to be practicing law and no politics Among Pete's clients is The New York Times, in labor matters, not secret Pentagon document.

Dick Hastings, who's an orthopedic surgeon on Long Island, said his malpractice insurance premium has gone from $800 to 54200 in the past five years with no claim against him. Following President Kemeny's delightful talk to all the reunion classes Friday night, Irvin (Tex) Levy finally popped the question about coeducation after several queries from other alumni or other subjects, causing Mr. Kemeny congratulate the audience for its unusual restraint. He expected coeducation first.

Doug- Melville led the teenagers in an after-dark assault on Bartlett Tower, brave scaling the heights. Glen Wathen, who lives in Fort Fairfield, Me., won the reunion attendance award for rounding up the most '55s. Pete Branch said he's "still in the right seat of a 727" for American Airlines. Newll and Betsy Stultz were planning a sabbatical from Brown University to spend a yea in the Union of South Africa studying appointments to the cabinet under that autocratic regime as compared with cabinet appointments in more democratic nations Betsy is from the Union of South Africa, and she and Newell met there in 1956 when he was a Fulbright scholar.

Gene and Georgette Gerard arrived in Hanover two days before reunion to attend the semi-annual meeting of the Alumni Council. Jere Daniell, who's an associate professor of history at the College, commuted to and from reunion activities on his bicycle. Sportsman Bob Lieder reminisce, about a 10-day raft trip down 300 miles of Colorado River and riding a helicopter up a western mountain to ski down in waist-deep powder. Lou Cavaliere said that on top of teaching biology at North Haven (Conn.) High School, he's also director of an after- school and summer driver education program.

Amid the frivolity, '55s attending the class meeting on Saturday morning unanimous approved a resolution calling on the new class officers and each member of the class individually to undertake "all possible efforts" to secure the release of Glenn Wilson from prison in North Vietnam. The intention is to stimulate letters to President Nixon and members of Congress urging them to resolve the prisoner of war issue speedily, and perhaps request the Trustees to take similar steps in the name of the College.

The joint 1955-1956-1957 picnic at Storrs Pond was a gigantic affair.
