Dutch Waterbury is hard at his historical novel on the Samson Occom theme. He reports the College wishes to purchase the grave site, enclose it and erect a headstone. Dutch succeeded in having a highway marker erected, after years of prodding the authorities.
Windy Winship wished us good luck in our new abode in Cape Elizabeth, Me. Was thankful for his birthday card and said he saw or talked with Charles Jordan every week. Says he does light chores (cooking and housekeeping, watches TV and listens to his arteries harden). Jack and DellWelch report they are very well. Their sons live nearby to bolster their confidence. They stay close to home now, as do most of us.
Ruth Backus spent most of the summer with her daughter Priscilla in Vermont. She was glad to be back home in Concord, Mass., in early September. Bill Gooding's son, Class of '45, has been transferred to Greensboro, N. C., and loves it there. His grandson David Hyde is in the Class of '75.
Vail Applegate reports that Mildred needs his care and attention. At 84, his health is fairly good so let us pray that she may continue to avoid hospitals or nursing homes. True Dudley flew to San Francisco in early September with a party of 50 to attend the World Conference of "The Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International." There were 8,000 present. He, with 6,000 others in one room, was enthralled by the cures induced by faith healer Kathryn Kuhlman.
John Coggins writes that his West Coast progeny must use "Old Cal." and its branches. Douglas is at Berkeley, Carolyn at Riverside, and Cathy at Santa Barbara, but Bill Maloney will graduate from Seaton Hall College next June. He further reports that Grace (Mrs. Seth) Emerson did York Beach this summer and is quite refreshed. Also that Bendy Griswold was mourned by the widows of the Nashua delegation.
Henry Smith reported his attendance at the memorial service for Brad Patten. His North Scituate property has now been repaired after the damage by the February gale which was the worst since the night the Portland went down in 1898. He writes that he is very much in favor of the Resolution of August 22 on the 1911 Permanent Fund for many reasons.
Troy Parker's granddaughter writes she wants to break into Hanover after she gets out of highschool. She is top girl in her class. His grandson David passed by Dartmouth and goes to Harvard, which was a blow. Sam and Elsie Pickering say they are bearing up quite well and outside of "lack of pep" due to old age, manage to keep going.
Syd Beane, after two bouts in the hospital last year, is operating in lowest gear, he reports. He is an honorary member of the Weymouth Rotary Club and a life member of the New England Water Works Association. His hobby is genealogy. HenryJ. (Jinks) Morton's new address, which he hopes will be permanent, is Willamette Lutheran Home, Inc., 7693 Wheatland Road N.E., Salem, Ore. 97318. Stouder Thompson: We were saddened to learn from Fred Long that Biff passed away in September in the Stouder Memorial Hospital in Troy, Ohio. An obituary will appear in this or a later edition of this Magazine.
