Captain William Hurst, former commandant of the Naval ROTC unit at the College, has been named administrator for business affairs at Dick's House, the college infirmary.
A 1941 Annapolis graduate, Captain Hurst assumed command of the ROTC unit in 1968. He has recently retired after 30 years of service with the Navy. He served in the Pacific theater during World War II. His non-operational assignments following the war were largely in administration and education. For two years he was executive officer of President Truman's yacht, the Williamsburg.
Captain Hurst earned a master's degree in international affairs from George Washington University in 1964 while he was serving as director of the national strategy division of the Naval War College.
Since 1969 he has been coach of Dartmouth sailing teams and faculty adviser to the Dartmouth Corinthian Yacht Club, directing the growth of the club to a new fleet of 16 Interclub Dinghies. His younger son Robert is a Dartmouth freshman.
