News from the hinterlands is becoming re and more scarce, so I'll make my annual appeal for correspondence. Your name won't appear in this column unless the College or I know what's going on in your life. So, if you like seeing your name in ink, especially big green ink, please drop me a note concerning how's by you!

Reb Forte has recently been named a vice president of Mitchum, Jones & Templeton, Inc., a San Francisco brokerage house. His success there has been meteoric, as he has only been a year with the firm. He and Pat live in Moraga, Calif.

Vassar College has announced the appointment of Greg Fahlund to a three-year term as dean of freshmen. Also an assistant professor of political science, he will assume his new administrative duties on July 1.

Another major announcement was JimScott's engagement to Miss Katy Strayer (Bucknell). She works at the Sloan School of Business Administration at M.I.T., while Scotty climbs the ladder to success at Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery in Boston. June 1972 is their date.

Unhappy news from North Eastham, Mass., on the apparent death of JohnPickells. As I write this, he has been missing for nearly a week, and is presumed to be drowned in a boating accident. John had been a teacher of English at Harwich. (Mass.) H.S. 1966-71, but had taken this year off from teaching. Neil Grossman and other of John's friends on Cape Cod have established a fund for John's wife and four children, called the Pickells Children Fund. Contributions may be made to that fund c/o the Hyannis Co-operative Bank, Orleans Office, Main Street, Orleans, Mass. 02653.

Bo and Joan Andersen had their first child, Brock, on December 21. They're living in Los Angeles where Bo is an attorney with a tax division (I think) of the federal government.

Dave Weber and I recently traveled to Hanover for the annual joint meeting of the Trustees and the Alumni Council. He always returns from board meetings with one very strong impression—awe at how hard working, diligent, and thorough the Trustees are in their responsibilities to the College and the alumni. Dartmouth surely must be able to boast of a board of trustees which is as much involved with the daily operation of the school as their counterparts at any other college in the country. I know that Dave would welcome your thoughts and opinions about Dartmouth 1972. He can be written c/o Dartmouth, or here at Exeter.

My experience with the Alumni Council has been much the same. It is amazing the number of good men who expend considerable time, effort, and thought at helping Dartmouth to grow and change, and at the same time persevere in maintaining the College's most valuable and fundamental qualities. Whatever your bag, there is opportunity for you to be involved, whether it's in enrollment, employing students in their terms off, or in making your particular skills available to Dartmouth and Dartmouth men (and women).
