Word is just in from Laconia, N. H., that Dr. and Mrs. Powers were among about 50 volunteers who were honored at a Christmas Silver Tea given by the Lakes Region General Hospital Auxiliary for services rendered the hospital. The Powers have been operating the book cart to the tune of approximately 3,000 hours, the record in volunteer service. At 82, Doc Powers is still going strong and in addition to two days a week at the hospital serves as a director of the Laconia Council of the Aging, director and chairman of publicity, and member of the program committee of the Senior Citizens, member of the committee for the Save the Mills Society, and sings occasionally in choruses at special services in Laconia and Tilton. Bryant College in Providence, R. 1., has named him first Professor Emeritus, bringing him back to that institution annually for Commencement. To finish off a busy life and keep fit, he walks about two miles a day.

Tommie Thompson says the old bugbear, arthritis, in one hip and in his back will preclude the trip to Hanover in June. He has to use a walker and that means no long trips such as to Cape Cod where he was wont to go to visit his late sister. We shall be thinking of him at Reunion.

Chip Farrington has survived an attack of "fleebitis" but reports that is gone now so he can indulge in shuffleboard and English croquet with the best of the oldsters.

From Eleanor Richards tales of accidents and various troubles during 1971, but a cheery thanks to Elizabeth Park for her Christmas greeting "from outer space." And a note from Rachel Roberts in her small kitchen apartment in Rockport, Mass., where she lives contentedly and happy with a daughter close by.

Dave Dorward reports the death of his sister Constance Purington, following a shock in March of this year.
