Your secretary could scarcely conceal his mirth when he received a letter from Chip Farrington enclosing a snapshot of that gentleman with a full white beard and moustache. But it wasn't any joke and our 84-year old classmate had not joined the hippies. It was only the result of one of those nasty skin infections which fortunately responded to treatment and now, when you see him, the beard has been entirely removed. The face is no place to have shingles; in fact, it is a very uncomfortable addition to any part of one's anatomy. We all extend our sympathy and hope we never fall a prey to such a misfortune. Mark Allen sends a cheery note to tell us he is "coming along great" following his recent operation.
For once news from the widows outnumbers that from the stags and for this we owe ElizabethPark our gratitude for her faithful endeavors. Ruth Worton didn't go south this winter as in the past and found it not too bad. Arthritis, the old bugbear of advancing years, will keep her from joining us in Hanover in June. Harrie Chase's window Mina is thrilled to receive all the Dartmouth literature and how could she help it? Look at this record! One son, Dave '41; and two grandsons, Steven Chase '74 and Bob Chase '76. Now she is boasting triplets including identical twin boys and expects all three to be Dartmouth '90. Mina, now a great-grandmother, is an ardent Dartmouth football and Red Sox baseball fan. She spent part of the winter in Phoenix with her daughter and at the time of writing was about to embark on a Bermuda cruise. Our old faithful, Emma Pettingell, at 80 is enjoying her 4-room apartment and has hopes of getting a ride to Hanover for reunion in June.
