Our Class was shocked and deeply saddened upon receiving the news of Roy Carruthers' death on July 26. Roy was an outstanding member of our Class, a tireless worker for Dartmouth, and a most loyal alumnus. We shall miss him a great deal.

Bud Dutton has reminded us that Charles Widmayer '30, who has just retired as editor of the Alumni Magazine, was an advisor to the Green-book and Aegis during our undergraduate days. His tenure as editor commenced in 1943 and has closely paralelled our history of a graduated class. His contributions to our Class and Dartmouth are deeply appreciated.

Posie and Bate Ewart have been in the Philippines for the past several months where Bate is the project officer for the World Food Program. His work takes him all over the Islands which he says abound with friendly people. According to Bate one of the friendliest is Jim Froude, who also lives in Manila.

A friendly reminder from Class Agent Bert Anger arrived in June from Hong Kong. In the course of roaming around East Asia he visited South Vietnam where he has had an opportunity to view some of the extensive destruction of villages which has occurred after the cease-fire. Bert should have some interesting stories to tell when he returns.

The President has announced the nomination of Bob Hill for the post of Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. He replaces Warren G. Nutter. Bob's new appointment is one of a number of previous prestigious assignments. A few of these include ambassadorships to Spain, Guatamala, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. All of us are proud of your accomplishments, Bob.

Our international set also includes FrankMalavasic who states that he is enjoying life in the Canal Zone. He would love to have some of his old friends write him with letters addressed to Box 1966, Quarry Heights, Canal Zone.

A great letter from Bob Fisher abounded with enthusiasm over the recent changes in his life. About 18 months ago he started a new business known as GFS Corporation (General Furnishings Services) which is located in Mayer, Minn., a small town about 35 miles west of Minneapolis. The company supplies paint products and a broad range of interior decorator services to dealers in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Bob writes that the new business is a challenge and involves much hard work, but he describes in glowing terms his new home in the beautiful countryside away from the confusion and congestion of city life. He is looking forward to fishing and sailing as his major forms of relaxation. Two of Bob's three children are married and he has two grandchildren. His open invitation to classmates visiting the area (telephone 474-5124) is most generous and very tempting.

Downe Communications, Inc. has announced the promotion of Roland Tremble to executive vice president for the corporate staff and service group. His major responsibilities include the finance division, the administration division and the auditing unit. Rollie is both a director of Downe and the Bartell Media Corporation. Prior to joining Downe in 1971, he had been vice president, finance, and treasurer of American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. Congratulations, Rollie.

The class officers meeting in Hanover this past spring was a pleasant and most informative occasion. The College does a great job in maintaining espirit de corps amongst those who return. The highlights of the weekend were the many informal chats with Kathryn and Buzz Cassidy, Shirley andDick Burns, Barbara and Dick Smith, and WarrenKreter. Incidentally, Krete had to return home early in order to pick up a golf trophy at a banquet for a tournament which he had just won. A visit to Spain prevented the return of Lois and JimO'Mara for the weekend. How tough! One bit of undergraduate news concerned Burt Keirstead Jr. who we learned has developed into an outstanding goalie for the freshman lacrosse team.

Plans for the fall Class mini reunion in Hanover during the weekend of the Penn game are most inviting. We look forward to the return of a large contingent of classmates.
