A Sunday morning in October in New Hampshire has got to be one of the great pleasures left for us to enjoy. We are sitting on the porch at one of the facilities of Twin Lake Village in New London looking out on a group of'52s and '53s enjoying a game of tennis. Others are playing golf or just getting the juices flowing after a most enjoyable Saturday afternoon and evening planned by our social chairman Bill Breed ably assisted, not only by his wife Judy, but also by the entire Breed clan.
The foliage this weekend is simply magnificent and the weatherman has cooperated perfectly with two warm, sunshine filled days. It's a shame more classmates haven't taken advantage of this long weekend to enjoy with us, but those who did were not disappointed.
For the past several years a regular group of our class as well as the Class of 1953 have spent a fall weekend at Twin Lakes. This year we have taken over several of the houses overlooking the lake and right now Chet Wiley and Judy are relaxing in the front porch rockers. They came up for the weekend from Weston, Conn., not only to see the game but also to see their daughter who is attending Colby New Hampshire (new name for Colby this year).
At the Holy Cross game we had a good visit with Al and Judy Acker who came for the weekend with their children. Also, ran into Jim Branch at a pregame tailgate get together. Jim was busy engineering a large group of friends and relatives into what appeared to be a large reunion We briefly saw Jack and Libby Bricker and Charlie and Alison Curtis at the game but didn't have a chance to talk with them.
Bill Breed had arranged a post-game cocktail party at Twin Lakes which was a most enjoyable prelude to a terrific dinner at Hideaway Lodge in New London. In addition to most of those already mentioned as well as members of some other classes we were joined by Sam and Pixie Wallis who drove up for the day from the Boston area. Following the cocktail party about 22 of us moved on to the Hideaway for the evening. Steve and Lorraine Parkhurst, also staying at Twin Lakes, not only attended the dinner but all other events as well. They were really enjoying the beautiful fall weather and made an extended tour of New England before and after the Saturday get togethers. Howie Smith and Debbie Phillips, Bill and Susie Montgomery, the Breeds, Wileys and Parkhursts completed our '52 dinner group.
It is appropriate to add we were joined at dinner by a healthy group of '53s and, following dinner, we adjourned to the lounge where Chet Wiley and Byron Menides paired up to entertain us all with some mean piano playing. Judy Wiley accompanied Chet with several show tunes and it was great fun.
Surfaced from a pile of papers is a delayed announcement that Pete McSpadden has been named executive vice president of New York's Dancer-Fitzgerald advertising. And Jim Wittenberg, vice president of corporate development for International Multifoods since 1969, has joined the law firm of Doherty, Rumble & Butler in its Minneapolis office. He has been with Multifoods since 1963 and was elected secretary and general counsel in 1967. So much for notes for this month. It's too nice a day to sit at the typewriter and we're off to the Curtis' place for some light refreshment. Those of you close enough to make this weekend next year - do it.
