It is bound to happen from time to time but this month we have a "slow news day" as they say in the newspaper trade. Actually, we probably should be grateful since most news these days is bad.

On the positive side we are pleased to report a meeting of your class officers in New York in early January. The meeting was hosted by class president John Rosenwald and was a great success in terms of attendance and accomplishment. Of course, it was necessary to discuss financial support of the College and this is a very serious matter. But we also discussed early plans for our 25th Reunion, improved class communications, and other things our class might do to get together more often and help the College as part of our activities.

Jack Barclay, head agent for the Class, flew in from St. Joseph, Mo., to lead the discussion on plans for the 1975 Alumni Fund drive. Marcel Durot, now in charge of the personal care products division for Gillette, came down from Boston, Lou Zehner and Angus Russel! joined the meeting from Philadelphia, while Steve Mandel and Dr. Lloyd Fisher drove in from Connecticut. Frank Logan was a very active participant in the discussions with his contributions from the Hanover scene. Local (i.e., New York) attendees were Jim Toffey, Cal Palitz, Cy Gsell, plus Rosenwald and your class secretary. Full details of the meeting will be reported by the president via the class newsletter.

In other news, we had a good visit recently with Herb Katz up in Boston. Herb is in the lumber business, both wholesale and retail, in the Boston area and he reports business is doing fine in spite of the drop in the housing market. Herb was recovering from a minor illness when we talked and we trust he is fully mended now.

We are pleased to report the appointment of Dr. Arnold Muller as medical director of emergency health services for the Pennsylvania State Department of Health. In this position he will be responsible for the development of the first statewide comprehensive emergency medical services system. He is also director of emergency care services at the Hershey Medical Center of Penn State University. Arnold has been active in Pennsylvania in coordinating emergency care facilities and earlier in 1974 he put together an association of more than 60 volunteer organizations. The Mullers, by the way, live on East Chocolate Avenue in Hershey.

Last month we reported on the activities of several members of the Class serving as presidents of local alumni associations. It is also important to note that a number of our classmates are active in other roles supporting local clubs. For example, Dick Brown of Darien, Conn., and George Littlehales of Branford, Conn., are serving as job placement chairmen of their clubs. Jack Clow, San Francisco, PeteStanley, Boston and Ted Rice, Hartford, are working in their clubs as liaison officers. Dave(L) Larson, Durham, N.H., and Pete Henderson, Cleveland, are academic affairs officers in their local organizations. Finally, we have two association secretaries, Wilbur Smith in Memphis and Herb Riegelman in Burlington, Vt. A very good show of support.

On the national scene for the alumni activities Kent Calhoun is a member of the DCAC as reported earlier in the year. Pete Zischke is on the enrollment and admissions committee of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, Jack Clow and Vince Jones are Area Enrollment Directors, and Pete Stanley, Ted Rice and John Newey are district enrollment directors. You can bet they have all been busy these past few months. LouZehner mentioned, by the way, at the class officers meeting that his son John was accepted under the early acceptance program for the fall incoming freshman class.

It is always good to hear from people in warm climates this time of year so we were doubly pleased to get a card from John Doty recently. John and his wife Carol are enjoying things in Miami where he is with Eastern Airlines and playing golf at least once a week.

Finally, we recently got a nice note from DaveEdson. Actually, it wasn't a note, it was a check from the College refunding the difference between the price of seats in the end zone and the sidelines - a hangover from the Harvard debacle. Dave is Comptroller of the College and he signed the check. I told you it was a slow news month.
