Just gonna give the news, please.
Administration sources have revealed that Douglas C. Burnell has signed on for a third year with the Peace Corps in Morocco. Doug is the only volunteer surveyor in Morocco, and in addition to preparing detailed maps for irrigation and water supply projects will train raw recruits in the art. His past two years of service have taken him throughout southern Morocco; quoth Doug, "I really got into the countryside, which I liked. Every little project would have its own challenges and obstacles. I've learned so much here in two years — it's incredible." Would that we all could say the same! (Whoops, that ain't news.)
It says here that Leonard Price has received a James B. Reynolds Scholarship from Dartmouth, with which he will write a novel and reside in Spain.
Army intelligence reports that Glenn D. Chinen is in Aschafifenburg, Germany, as an officer of the 3d Infantry Division. Navy LTJG Gary Caudill confesses to having married the former Bridget Blackman (University of Akron, '72) November 11 at Berea, Ohio. Groomsmen who have kept the event a closely guarded secret include Steve Moss and Randy McFarlane. Gary is a communications officer on the nuclear attack submarine USS Shark, stationed in Norfolk, Va., while Bridget teaches fourth grade in the Hampton Roads School District.
Another marriage, this of Michael George Dyer to the former Margot Flowers at Pacific Palisades, Calif., in early January. Both Mr. and Ms. Dyer have anthropology degrees from Temple University, and presently live in Columbus, Ohio, for what purpose we know not. (This squib was gathered from the Santa Monica Outlook, which referred to our classmate twice as "the benedict." Funk and Wagnall's defines "benedict" as "a recently married man, especially one who seemed to be a confirmed bachelor." Please, just give the news.)
Jorgs Jorgenson is doing something right at Marine Midland in New York. At least the bank has informed us that he has been appointed an assistant commercial banking officer. He began at Marine Midland in 1971 as a management associate, and is assigned to the Third Avenue Office where he has been a platform assistant since last summer. Bob and wife Cathy are New York City dwellers with an 18th Street address.
Army First Lieutenant Arthur B. Porter recently completed the leaders course at the Northern Warfare Training Center, Ft. Greely, Alaska, and has since returned to Ft. Carson, Colo., where he is officer-in-charge of the Ft. Carson Mountain Rescue Team.
Steve Tourek was at No. 7 last April 7 when the Cambridge crew soundly squelched the Oxfordians on the Thames.
James Morrison is engaged to be married to Marion Lindsay, Columbia University student and niece of the mayor. Jim is the director of field work and special services for the Country Dance and Song Society of America at its national headquarters in New York. Song and dance, it is suspected, will not be found inimical to Gotham politics, and that's no news to anybody.
Don Nunes is a reporter for the WashingtonPost, according to sources close to the White House, and receives monthly remuneration from a special employees salary fund.
And finally, we had lunch in San Francisco recently with Bob Harrington, courtesy of his late employer, Saturday Review. It seemed a little like delivering one last slug to the dying mare. Bob however is not one to be caught napping, and has. he assures us, plans hatching - no release date as yet. He did reveal a certain disenchantment with the communications industry, at least on a national scale, for lack of contact with real live human beings in the audience. Future activities he hopes will fill this particular void.
Thus ends this year's somewhat vagrant volume of news notes, the next to commence come October. This does not mean, however, that we will not be constantly prying, spying, and skulking about, in short pursuing any means short of actual personal contact, in order to garner once again the coveted Richard M. Nixon Third-Hand Information award which rumor has we have won three years running. Responsibility for this success must, we fear, be shared by all.
