It is still summer in Salisbury, Conn., as I prepare these notes. By the time you see them in the Alumni Magazine the football season will be almost over. November 23 is the date of the last game against Penn. Since Bill Smith will not attend the opening game on September 28, I will plan to report on our fall reunion. This should reach you about the time you hang up your stockings on Christmas Eve.

Early in September, while attempting to gel some of my records up to date, I wrote to (1) Harold T. "Skitch" Greeley, (2) Reginald T."Dutch" Brummer, (3) John R. Harvey, (4) RoyMetcalf, (5) Coord Roosen and (6) Erhardt F. Malz. They all responded promptly, a virtue which I greatly appreciate. Like many of us they find they are not as vigorous as they were in middle life. But they made no complaints.

The rest of these notes will cover a few of the activities and interests of Nick Sandoe who was reelected president of the Class last June. Nick still leads a busy life as senior member of the New York City law firm of Sandoe, Hopgood & Calimafde.

Nick married Dorothy Marsh on April 17. 1922 in Washington, D.C. They have two Dartmouth sons, Nick Jr '45 and Robert M. '46. As of last fall they had two grandsons at Dartmouth (1) Jonathan Marsh Sandoe 1975 and (2) Michael Kane Sandoe 1976.

On Saturday, April 15, 1972 the Sandoes celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a luncheon at the Union League Club in New York City. Harriet and I attended. It was a memorable occasion which I wrote up at length in a Smoke Signal dated August 23, 1972. I still remember Nick's welcome words "The bar is now open." I also remember Mose Robinson's classic account of what he termed "My Life With Dorothy."

Over the years Nick has been a leader in Dartmouth Alumni activities and in my opinion he is an admirable president of our class.

Back in 1949 he was elected a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council for a four year term. For three of those four years he was chairman of the Council's Committee on Bequests. From 1962-64 he was president of the Dartmouth Club in New York City. He was the .Dartmouth Alumni Award in 1962.

It is my impression that eventually the Sandoes will become permanent residents of Acworth, N.H., where they have had a second home since 1967. I don't think a firm date has been set but it could be within a year or two,
