With the loss of Bill Shapleigh our vice president, Joe Doe, has agreed to serve as editor of the Billboard. I am sure he will do a good job. He needs your help so send him any bit of news you can, and this includes the class widows, not forgetting Elizabeth Park. The new appointment has been made with the approval of ConnieSnow. We are now down to a count of 55 and Joe says it breaks his heart to know there are so few of us left. However, we are still a strong and loyal group.
Have you read the short review of Syd Clark's book in the December 1973 issue of the AlumniMagazine? Syd says he is busier than ever and plans to go to Britain on April 13 for a month of travel and studying the changes in that country to redo his "All the Best in Britain."
Sam Hobbs writes he will be very busy through the first week in April working with the man who will take his place. Mark Allen celebrated his 85th birthday in January when he was well remembered by relatives and friends. All this and going strong after a prostate operation, removal of a malignant tumor from his bladder, and a minor heart attack! He anticipates the sale of his business the first of February.
Our genial and very competent Class Treasurer, Fletcher Clark, after 52 years as moderator of the Town of Middleborough, Mass., decided he would not run again. The town is said to have been shocked. He will continue to maintain his law practice together with other business and private interests. His partner was elected to fill his position. Fletcher's longevity in office rightfully earned him the title of "Dean of New England Town Moderators."
We received a nice letter from GertrudeMcCarthy telling how much she has appreciated the Billboard with its intimate information so well composed by our Bill. May Boylan has informed us of the sudden death of Emma Pettingell on January 21, 1974. Emma, like May, was a regular annual reunioner. We shall miss her. Elizabeth Park did her usual thing this Christmas by sending greetings to about 100 class widows. We all know how much Elizabeth's devoted service is appreciated.
Don't forget to write Jimmie Cleaves at the Meredith Bay Nursing Home, Meredith, N.H. 03253. At least, send him a card.
Also, don't forget to return the card of your intention to attend the Post 50-Year Classes Reunion to the secretary, intended to go originally to Bill Shapleigh, so that proper reservations can be made. We shall not have a separate Class Reunion this year.
