Dick House writes that in the last five years he has netted a Harvard M.A.T. in Russian, coordinated a small tutoring program for the Spanish and Portuguese speaking residents of Cambridge, Mass., and taught fifth grade in Warren, N.H. Dick presently teaches Russian and French at Belmont High School in Belmont, Mass. The future? Probably advanced graduate work in Slavic Linguistics.
Mike Stratton's annual epistle announced his leave of absence from his Outward Bound Program to help lead the International Outward Bound Exchange Expedition to Africa this winter. Mike should have returned to the Carroll School (Lincoln, Mass.) by the time you read this column. Marianne Alpert reports the birth of a son of Jeremy. The Alperts had been in Melbourne, where husband Bruce was studying at the Royal Children's Hospital during his final year of med school. Bruce and Marianne managed to visit Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand, and Hawaii on the way. Bruce is now an intern in pediatrics at John Hopkins.
Steve Horwitz is also an MD and has begun a five year internship-residency in general surgery and head and neck (otolaryngology, in case you were not aware) at Presbyterian-St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago. John Frondorf vacationed in Hong Kong last summer before beginning the next to last year of his masters in architecture program at UPenn. Richard Alderson began Harvard Law School last fall after four years in the Marine Corps. John Bassett earned a Masters of Arts in Industrial Administration from Carnegie-Mellon and now works for Continental Oil Co. in Stamford, Conn. John's wife, Elaine, is an analyst at Turnkey Systems, Inc., a small computer software and consulting firm in Norwalk. John and Elaine live in Westport.
Bob Dickgiesser's wife, Nancy, reports the birth last May of their first child, Holly. After Skip Auten won a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery in Vietnam, he travelled for a year, then worked for Tech Hi-Fi in Burlington, Vt. Last September, Skip started Suffolk Law School in Boston. Jim Heath, wife Mara, and son Paul live in Watertown, Mass., while Jim attends Harvard Business School. Jim andElaine Magyar both have Ph.D.'s in organic chemistry and lecture in the "five college" area, Jim at Mt. Holyoke and Elaine at UMass (Amherst).
Chuck Pineo is in the process of adding a Stanford MBA to the MS in Applied Sciences he earned last year. Linda, his wife, is a graduate student in music at the same institution. John Lallis returned from Vietnam in '71, received a Masters in Secondary Education in '73, and now is teaching history at New Providence High School in New Jersey. DickSaunders graduated from Columbia Med School last spring and is interning at St. Luke's Hospital in New York. Next year Dick will return to Columbia Presbyterian for a residency in opthalmology. Dick married Anne Leslie (Wellesley '72) on October 20. Anne is doing graduate work in Greek & Latin at Columbia.
Dave Abbott is finishing his MS (geology) thesis for the Colorado School of Mines. JohnMcKelligot graduated from UPenn Law School in the spring of '72 and two months later married Martha Schwarz. John now works for the Philly law firm of Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell & Hippel. John and Martha spent a couple of weeks in Paris last summer John and Karla Spooner have moved to Richardson, Texas, where John is the southwest regional sales manager for the William Underwood Co. and Karla sells advertising for the Texas Tribune.Bob Shellard continues to manage market forecasting for CBS-TV. Bob and Trish have purchased a home in Glen Rock, N.J. Dave Boyle picked up an MBA (Northwestern U) and now works for Colgate-Palmolive in New York marketing consumer package goods. Lastly, Pete and Connie Robinson live on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Connie works for the FDIC and attends law school at night. Pete was recently appointed legal assistant to the parliamentarian of the House of Representatives.
