Retired former class officers continue to be a fertile source of classmate news. Their understanding and interest is greatly appreciated.
Dick Lippman forwarded an interesting article about Warren Jones which appeared in the Billings (Mont.) Gazette (a paper frequently scanned by Lip). The article indicated that Buck was elected to a three-year term on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. At the present time Buck resides in Harlowton, Mont., where he is a rancher and is secretary-treasurer of the Two Dot Land and Livestock Company. He has just completed his fifth year as a director of the Helena Branch Bank and previously has been president of the Montana Beef Council. A small taste of the local produce could attract many of Buck's old friends to a short visit with him in Montana.
Dick Baldwin writes that Bert Englert has just been elected executive vice president of the Fannie E. Rippel Foundation with headquarters in Morristown, N.J. For the uninformed, the Foundation is concerned mostly with the support of medical research projects in the fields of medical education, heart disease, and cancer. There is no doubt but that the Foundation is fortunate to have such a capable person as Bert to fill this important and highly responsible position.
The Leader and Press out of Springfield, Mo. has announced that Ernest Grinnel Jr. has been promoted to senior vice president in charge of marketing for the Frisco Railway. Ernie is a lawyer and joined the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Company in 1951. He appears to be progressing quite well up through the industrial ranks having previously held the positions of assistant general attorney, general attorney, general solicitor, and vice president for traffic and industrial development. Ernie is an expert in the legal aspects of interstate commerce.
Luis Zalamea has just resigned after seven years as executive director of the South American Travel Organization in order to form his own travel public relations firm. Luis' base of operation is located in Miami, Fla Luis sounds like a good man to contact if you're planning to test your canoe on the Amazon or just want to get away from it all.
Frank Malavasic continues to hold down the fort as mayor of Curundu in the Canal Zone. He is in the process of building a new modern bowling center for the community. Frank may have some latent athletic ability but most of the active talent seems to be with his son, Marc, who is a freshman at Canal Zone College. Marc is a six-foot, 180-pound right hander who recently accomplished the rare feat in baseball of pitching two consecutive no hit, no run games. This feat has been recorded only one time previously in major league history. That was by Johnny Vandermeer of the Cincinnati Reds in 1938. The win gives Canal Zone College a record of nine wins and no losses. It sounds Frank may not be far from losing his son to the majors in exchange for an attractive contract,
Don't forget those cold young students in Hanover this year when you write out your check for the Alumni Fund. Dartmouth must not be a school of frozen assets. That should close the pun department for a least another month.
