What with letters from President Warren Kreter, letters from Reunion Chairman Bob Kirk, newsletters from Editor Dick Smith, and monthly reminders in this column... you should have by now the general impression that we do indeed have a reunion in Hanover on June 13-15. The June that follows this month is the June I'm referring to. What I mean is... in 30 days (or less, depending on when you receive this issue) the Class of '42 is convening for its 35th reunion in Hanover, and we really hope to see you there. Join more than a hundred and twenty of your classmates who have indicated as early as the middle of March that they would be there. I'm sure that by the time you read this the attendance will swell to over 200... a new alltime record for a 35th reunion. Be there!

Did you notice in the March issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINES review in the Dartmouth Authors section of a new book by Art Cox? It's name is The Dynamics of Detente (Norton. 1976, 256 pages, $8.95). Go out and buy one.

Dr. Dave Smith, Philadelphia, has been professor of pediatrics at Temple University Medical School for many years, and is now acting chairman of the department. He is also acting director of St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Ed Spiegel, chairman of the board of directors, chief executive officer and president of Alton Box Board Company, Alton, Ill., was elected to the board of directors of Laclede Steel Company, St. Louis. Ed is also a director of The Boatmen's National Bank of St. Louis, First National Bank & Trust Co., of Alton, Ill., Employers Insurance of Wausau, Illinois Manufacturers' Association, St. Luke's Hospital of St. Louis, the St. Louis Municipal Opera, and a few others.

A letter from Dr. Dick Maxwell tells about a recent trip to Russia with his wife Helen and Jim Skinner and his wife Avis. He enclosed a picture of the four of them taken in front of St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square. If there is enough room maybe you'll see it on this page. Dick recently spent some time at Harvard Medical School taking an intensive review course in psychiatry. "Total immersion," he writes, "but great for making available a lot of information in a relatively short period of time. What else would you expect from Harvard and the Massachusetts General Hospital!" Dick continues, "When I wrote you about a year and a half ago I mentioned the idea of changing directions and switching careers when one is in his fifties. I was surprised and gratified at the response of several classmates who had similar ideas. So, I'm just reporting up to date that I'm still on the same road and loving every minute of it as I try to unravel and sort out the challenge of working in a community mental health center in South Carolina. It's the most gratifying and fulfilling work I've ever done.

"So, push on, you guys, who think you just might try a different challenge and don't bedeterred by the fact that you're only 56 years young! Hope to see you at reunion."

"Dick. I must say your life sounds exciting and warding. But, it seems to me it's a helluva lot easier for a doctor to pick up and start anew somewhere else than, for example, a 56-year-old Winter (me). Tell me how to do it June 13-15 when I see you at reunion.
