Arthur Marsden was apponted to the Mayor's Charter Study Commission of the City of Lawrence, Mass. This is a signal honor for Arthur, for the Class of 1916, and Dartmouth College. Here is what Arthur had to say, "I have served for the past ten- months on the Commission. This old textile city of Lawrence has not had a change in its charter since 1911. (That was before we entered Dartmouth. Ed). Along with 20 other citizens I have put in hours of listening to politicians, mayors, college professors, city managers, school committee members, and other officials from all over the State. Now we have just filed a most elaborate report. But the citizens will not have a chance to vote on the new charter until 1975. For me it was a most interesting and profitable experience."

And here is another of Arthur's activities: He is one of three trustees of a Fund established by a Lawrence Massachusetts doctor to aid and assist the needy in Lawrence. This Fund is a memorial by the doctor to the many patients who put their trust and confidence in him during the many years" of his practice. This is the reverse of many memorial funds and caused our Judge Cox, Class of 1901, to comment that it was one of the finest and most unique trust funds he knew of.

We now learn why many of the students who came from Lawrence were good students in Gordon Ferry Hull's physics classes. There was a certain teacher of physics in Lawrence High School who not only gave all his students a basic background in physics but also steered many to Darmouth College. This teacher was the father or out Ed Riley and as a result in the Class of 1916 we had besides Arthur Marsden Ed Riley, Herb Stiegler, and Herb Lord. And the 1917 delegation from Lawrence was Arthur Duhamel and Paul Burnham.

For "the Leavitt delegation in the Class, 1973 was a banner year with double honors coming to Les and Russ. Les and Margaret Leavitt took to the air landed in London, then flew the 14-hour trip to Rhodesia where the younger Leavitts are located at a missionary station. During Les' visit he went with his son Dan to Umtali where they both took part in the Sunday service at the "sister church" of his Wellesley Church and had the special honor of helping to lay the cornerstone of the new United Church of Christ building His second very personal honor was to see in Edinburgh, Angus, the newest arrival in the family, their first great-grandchild. Congratulations, Margaret and Les.

A trip to Greece planned by Russell and Edith Leavitt was postponed when Russ had to go into the hospital in Hanover for repairs. Nothing daunted they later were driven to the Hampton Academy Reunion where Russ was a guest of honor and received a special award. This academy is where Russ was headmaster until he went to the State Board of Education. While visiting his brother at Lake Sunapee the family - three brothers, a sister, and two sisters-in-law and Edith - helped celebrate Russ' 80th birthday. A repeat performance of the birthday was held in Connecticut where 30 of Russ' descendants held a picnic among whom was his first great-grandchild. Congratulations Russ and Edith.

Back in the piano business is Tog Upham as Phoenix-like he rises from the ashes of his store that burned November 1968. The best thing about his new arrangement is that he will have the pianos on display at his home thus giving the proper setting, so that people can see how a piano will fit into their homes. And Tog is just the person to introduce names like these to music lovers: Kranich & Bach, Henry F. Miller, Vose & sons, and Winter. This man has been carrying on an art appreciation course for Kay English's grandchildren by exposing them to the Arts - one to hear Beethoven's 9th and another on a tour of the Boston Art Museum.
