As a member of the Class Organization Committee of the Alumni Council, I have been privileged to meet with representatives of the past three freshmen classes. Most recently in February with the Class of 1979, whose members came to Hanover at the conclusion of four years of experience with the Dartmouth Plan and coeducation. Understandably they see Dartmouth more clearly as it is than as it was, and if they are representative, the freshmen like what they see and are committed to a program of fostering class cohesiveness that should reassure those who may feel that the changes at Dartmouth are only divisive. It was interesting to find that the 1979 class organizational leaders came from Connecticut and Hawaii, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Texas, and that Jay French, president John's grandson, heads the Parents' Weekend committee.

Chuck Simmons. "There has been quite a change in my life during the last year. My wife Jane died last August from cancer. Since that time I've met a lovely lady whom I am marrying February 28 and will be in California for about a month. I hope to see Fred Tangeman at Rancho Bernardo. Uncertain about the reunion because Grace and I are going to be plenty busy during May and June." Louise Blakey was married to Franklin H. Middleton '29 on February 14. They will be living at Longboat Key, Sarasota. Our best wishes to both.

Frank Fowler (Hackettstown) whose first wife Betty died in 1974, has remarried. Son Frank III, pastor of United Methodist Church of New-foundland N.J., officiated at the wedding. Frank is vice president of Triumph Machinery Co.

William E. Steers died on February 23 in Northfield, Vt. Our sympathy is extended to Hannah and the other members of his family.

Ed Brazil will carry on the work that Buck had so enthusiastically begun as Reunion Chairman. John French writes of his appreciation for Ed's willingness to serve, pointing out that the assignment was accepted without a moment's hesitation. John also stressed the need for each of us to pitch in and give Ed all the help he needs. I talked with him in early March and he does need to hear from you as to your intentions. At that time, we were only half way in numbers towards our goal. Ed and Arline will be on a cruise to South America and through the Canal for several weeks in April. His principal business activity currently is in the field of real estate evaluation. Frank Ryder informs that daughter Sally (Mrs. Upton Brady) is author of a Doubleday novel, Instar, to be published in May.

In preparation is a new address directory to be issued in early May. Because the College has recently sent out questionnaires, we will use the responses to those as a basis for the new directory.

Gordon S. Butler died in Worcester on March 7. Our sympathy is extended to Barbara and their children.
