We're coming close to the last call for reservations for the Western Reunion at Ojai Valley Inn, June 7-9. Bob Marr is the man to call (602-625-8339).

Charlie Humiston writes: "I retired in December from my job at the New York Life Insurance Company. The question most frequently asked by my well-wishing friends was "What are you going to do with your retirement time?" There were a number of options open to me, none of which included watching daytime TV. I hit on a very interesting one. I have filed for the Republican primary for House of Representatives for the fifth New Jersey Congressional district. Now I'm busy, you betcha."

I'm sure that Bob McClory and HermSchneebeli share our hope that Charlie will join them in Washington. If anyone in the Class is uncertain of Congressman McClory's committee affiliation, he hasn't followed the recent activities of the Judiciary Committee of which Bob has long been a member.

Leonard S. Schmitz died in Florida on February 8 and our sympathy is extended to Betty and their children.

Art Olsen reports that he has many interests outside the Mayo Clinic, does a great deal of traveling, and although scheduled for retirement in October, may defer that move for a while.

One of our most distinguished educators is Harold Kaplan, professor of Physiology at Southern Illinois University. He has served as president of the Illinois State Academy of Science and of the American Association of Laboratory Animal Care. He is the author of scores of articles and several books, and most recently co-authored an article entitled Ketamine-Methoxyflurane Anesthesia for Rabbits published in the American Journal of Veterinary Research. We have missed him and Bernice at our informal reunions and hope that they will join us at Woodstock, October 11-13.

Bob Chittim reports "another successful Florida reunion, this time at Longboat Key, Sarasota, on March 9 under the direction of Doris and Scott VanDerbeck, with classmates from all over the state as well as a few who came in just for the occasion: the John Frenches from New York and the Shaw Coles on their way home from a Caribbean cruise. They had stopped by to see the Buck Steers.

"Festivities started with a cocktail party. It took about an hour and a half (we're slowing down) to work the bar stock down to normal size. John French brought us up to date on the 1930 Lectureship Fund which has crossed the $50,000 mark with 147 classmates participating. Harry Dunning, who had attended a Trustees meeting in early March, was able to give us first hand information on the effect of the energy crunch on college finances, although he takes a reasonably optimistic view of our ability to work it out with the help of the entire alumni body.

"The evening was capped with a showing of class slides by Ave Gould and Bob Blanchard. We missed having Rocky at the dinner - he was in Sarasota the day before for a belated Lincoln's Day dinner but his schedule couldn't accommodate staying over. We also missed Martie and Art Browning who are staying at Madiera Beach.

"The 'Sarasota 15' are very active. LouiseBlakey had a party for the clan in February, the Blanchards shared their 40th wedding anniversary with us, and Edie and Jack Fitzpatrick entertained with a cocktail party before a recent Sarasota club Dartmouth Club luncheon. We don't mess around in this retirement town!"

In addition to those already mentioned, present at the reunion were the Herb Chases, Jim Clarks, Condons, Deans, Maggie Fisk (Al was detained in N.Y. by business), Godwins, Holmes, Johnes, Marsters, Odberts, Shultz, John Tiedtke, and Wiggins. Head count was 43.

The next 1930 get-together will be on Saturday, June 15, at the Nelson Rockefellers' Pocantico Hills, N.Y. Milt Mclnnes will cover the details in his Newsletter.

Every member of the 1930 family will be saddened to hear of the death of TimmieJeremiah. She died March 12 at Hanover's Mary Hitchcock Hospital after a long fight against cancer. Eddie Jeremiah, who died seven years ago, and Lois Timmons were married on December 24, 1954. They were an effervescent part of every '30 gathering for many years. Timmie was a native Vermonter and attended the University of Vermont for three years before studying also at the University of Miami Law School and Bryant Business School in Providence. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War 11, was an admission officer at the Hitchcock Hospital for 13 years, and most recently had worked for the Grafton County Welfare Department. She leaves a brother, Leonard Timmons of White River Junction, Vt. A memorial service was held at St. Denis Church, Hanover, on March 16.

Hugh Gibbons '30 (r) has earned the right to add another "thirty" to his name. That isthe number of years of service he has given to the National Security Agency, a fact hererecognized by Dr. Louis Tordella, deputy director.
