Fritz Hier and Dennis Dinan, editors of "The (Dartmouth) Bulletin," called attention in the January issue to the hardiness of the remaining members of the Class of 1909, 95 per cent of which lives in the north. Our class, with many cripples among its 30 living members, can boast only 80 per cent hardy souls. Two have gone south for their health and one represents us in South Africa. We all continue to have the "still north in our veins" just the same.
Following the letter from the Class Secretaries Association commented on in our last column comes one from the Class Presidents Association, which suggests that in lieu of the May class officers meeting, the officers of the post-50-year classes meet at the time of the reunion in June. This sounds feasible, particularly for the cripples. We approved it.
After passing the required test, Ray Tobey now holds a driver's licence in Maine good until he is 90. Congratulations! He is planning on reunion in June but will have a chauffeur. Ray never misses our class get-togethers.
We are heartened by receipt of a notice that a welcome memorial gift has been contributed to the 1977 Alumni Fund in the name of John R.Park by his nephew John P. Shepard.
Barbara Hoban thought of us at New Year's and sent a card from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea telling of warmer weather after a cold rainy December. Little did she realize what was ahead. She spent Christmas with Bud's sister in Hollywood, Fla.
The last we heard from Leona Richmond, she was still traveling — as an antidote for lonesomeness. Her travels included a family party last summer at Thunder Bay, Minn., and a motor tour through New England in October, when she feasted her eyes on the White Mountains. Since then?
