Much of the time in January was taken up with correspondence with Nelson Doe and Dutch Waterbury in an effort to fill the office of class president resulting from Connie Snow's death in December. The final decision made by Jim Steen, chairman of the executive committee, was the selection of Dutch Waterbury, leaving for a future date the appointment of a new bequest chairman. It was also decided to increase the number of the executive committee to ten by adding to it all the officers and committee chairmen not already serving on it, plus JimOneal. We also received a note from (CatherineSnow, and one from Ray Tobey who says the cold weather seems to have helped his arthritis. Praises be!
Elizabeth Geiser notified us through the College that her father passed away in his sleep on January 11, and Stanley LovelPs son Richard sent word of his father's death on January 4. Stan was my freshman roommate who rose to fame in World War II as a member of the O.S.S.
The chairman of the Alumni Fund Committee has sent us a copy of the 1975 edition of the "In Memoriam" booklet. It contains the names of 39 of the 1912 members who have gone to their reward and this familiar quotation:
The still North remembers them, The hill-winds know their name, And the granite of New Hampshire Keeps the record of their fame.
As of this writing our Class numbers 38.
