The time is approaching more quickly than you think! June 11-14 is just around the corner, and if you haven't told Bill Wilson what your plans are, please sit right down and do so now. The more the merrier, but Bill and his committee need to know how many will be there.
Gene Orsenigo Jr. wrote to Ed Brown (my private source of news) that he had a party of seven at the Yale game, including three grandsons. "The oldest is a junior in high school and has his eye on Dartmouth. Fortunately he's an excellent student, so here's hoping. Saw the Penn and H. C. games and expect to see Columbia and then Princeton." You did quite well by the team, Gene, and we all hope your grandson is accepted when the time comes.
Stan Smoyer writes that he and his wife just returned from a "trip to Ireland and England, where we combined recreation with sight-seeing. We played six Irish golf courses. I'm reminded of my working days when I used to leave the office early to 'inspect 18 parcels of real estate.' I really did a good job of inspecting those roughs on the Irish courses. They eat golf balls." Confession is good for the soul, Stan - glad your boss never found out about your inspections!
Mac Collins had a cute note on his dues bill. "In the same mail I received dues notices from the Dartmouth and Harvard Clubs of Sarasota. The Dartmouth one said, "To meet increased costs of getting notices printed ... it is necessary to increase the annual dues to $8.50,' and the Harvard one said, 'You will be pleased to note that the membership dues are decreased to $6.00 a year.' One of them must be trying to tell us something." I must say, Mac, I liked the Harvard one best!
Dick Schueler is moving to 100 Waterway Road, Apt. 105 E, Tequesta, Fla. 33458. He adds, "Fishing said to be better than the polluted Great Lakes. After living 65 years in Chicago, this Tennessee Bill Hilly advises they give Chicago back to the Indians." I didn't know that Daly and Bilandic were Indians, Dick, but they sure have it back!
George Donehue wrote that he had attended the funeral of Bam Brennan in Lowell, Mass. George, retired, lives in Nashua and is planning to be at reunion in June. That's good.
Dick Wells writes that they will be on hand in June. He retired the first of the year. I feel good about one sentence in his note: "Ivy activities played down out here in the Big Ten area, so ALUMNI MAG keeps info coming." Glad someone reads it!
George Collins wrote about a terrific trip he and Gisele made. "June 24, Gisele and I boarded the S.S. Universe and took a 44-day 'educational cruise' from Ft. Lauderdale all around the Caribbean, through the Canal, and up the coast of Central America and Mexico, California, and finally the Inside Passage to Alaska. They dropped us off in Vancouver August 6, after which we motored all the way back to Mexico, stopping at the Thompson River in Canada to do a white water raft trip, and Spokane, Wash., to see my second son, Charles, who is administrator of St. Luke's Hospital. Then we stopped in San Francisco to see Gisele's daughter, Denise, and finally went down the coast of California to Ensenada. Flew back from San Diego September 8. Now we're going to rest up awhile." I should think you would after all that. What a great trip, George. I'll see you in Florida!
Jack Cavanaugh wrote in November that he was "getting set to move south for the winter. Will be in Boca Raton as usual 'til spring starts to pop in southern Connecticut. Fully retired now after a few years of part-time activity due to coronary difficulties. Had open heart by-pass at Mass General three years ago. Feel great, golf daily. My 17-year-old entering University of Florida come January. She keeps me current." Glad your operation was such a success, Jack, and sure hope you will come to reunion.
I still have a few more notes from Ed, which I will share in the April issue.
