Thought I'd start this column off with some nice news, and guess where it comes from - yep, that darned town in Maine called Damariscotta. The news was an announcement from the Bill Emersons about the marriage of their daughter, Karen Ann to Richard Fillman March 15. Congratulations to the newlyweds, and thanks, Bill.

Bud Yalalee wrote me March 2, to advise thathis stay in Maine ended abruptly when the sonof a Portland police officer crashed into Bud'scamper and wrecked both it and his neck, so hewas at Sanibel Island, Fla., to recoup. Says hebought a new GMC mini-motor home and loves it Is going to research General Arnold's march on Quebec during the Revolutionary War. Happy Bicentennial, Bud, and thanks for the note.

Some sad news via a newspaper clipping. The 31-year-old son of Jack Dineen passed away, following a four month illness. Our deepest sympathy to you and Eileen, Jack, from all the Class.

From Art Moebius came a clipping from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, stating that, "Creditors ask receivership for Erie Lackawanna Railroad," and who should be representing the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, and the Cleveland Trust Co. but our own Class' President Frank Heath. That is a big case and they (the major creditors) have a big attorney handling it. Good luck, Frank, and thanks, Art.

From two different sources, I received the same clipping about John Lyle, the Hanover doctor. He received the highest award available from the New Hampshire Division of the American Cancer Society," in recognition of outstanding contributions to the control of cancer." My two clippings from the ValleyNews, came from our Treasurer, Ed Brown and the Secretary of the Class of '35, Dick Montgomery. It had been sent to him by one of his classmates who thought John was in their class. Thanks, Dick, and as for you, John - our whole Class is proud of the marvelous record you have with the Cancer Society.

From Bill Sherman, a clipping that Laurie Herman sent him from the Christian ScienceMonitor, headlined, "Howie McHugh's Celtics Memories" and the guy they are talking about is our football center, hockey goalie, and baseball catcher, Howie McHugh. For the rest of you guys who didn't know, Howie has been with the Boston Celtics since 1946, the year they played in the Basketball Association of America, but has been associated with Boston Gardens since 1937. The article traces Howie through his radio announcing days, when he was trying to get Boston steamed up over the Celtics, to the 1959 playoffs with Minneapolis when he got so excited broadcasting that he even forgot the name of his close friend, Bob Cousy, and could only refer to "Number 14." It was a great article, Howie, and Bill is going to grab some of it, too. For those who want to read the whole article - and it is well worth it - look up the February 19 1975 issue of the Christian Science Monitor.

Merrill Heald, wrote on his dues bill that he is assistant general counsel and secretary of U.S. Steel Corp. He recapped his family, and here is the saga of the Healds. He married Jeanne Tremaine, and they have three daughters: Mrs. Arthur A. Quinn (Judy) graduated U. of Wisconsin in 1969 and has one boy; Mrs. William A. Trainer (Pam), will graduate West Virginia Uiversity in May; and Merilyn Heald who will graduate in May, from the U of Wisconsin. He then winds up his note, "at last - after 18 years of Higher Education !!!!" Good to hear about you, Merrill, and you should be proud.

Gardner Brown was elected fleet captain of the newly formed Rhodes 19 Fleet for Casco Bay sailors which will be based at the Harraseeket Yacht Club, according to a press release from Freeport. Any of you buffs in the area ought to go see Gard.

The Alumni Office sent me a clipping with picture of John Poole. He has just been elected president of the Pasadena Humane Society. John is an attorney in Pasadena and is immediate past president of La Vina Hospital and past board member of the Pasadena Art Museum. Your civic activities indicate a busy life, John. Good to hear the news.

Promised to list Frank Heath's Class Resources Committee in this issue, so here goes; Tom Beers, Sam Carson, Clarence Davies, Bill Emerson, Bob Engelman, Harry Gilmore, Herbert Heston, Frank Heath, Laurie Herman, Dick Houck, Art Leonard, Rollie Morton, Bill Sherman, Stan Smoyer, plus Al Jacobson, and myself as ex-officio members. I quote Frank, "the function of the committee has not been defined, but the obvious interest of the College is to have each class develop potential financial resources for the College."

So, that winds up this month's news. We head back to Wilmette the 26th of April, but I'll write the column from here next month, before we leave. Let's hear from you!!!!
