If you read the college section in the February issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE you know already that Dave McLaughlin has been elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College. For those of us who went to school with him and watched his athletic, academic, and leadership accomplishments, his election to the position of first among equals on the Board of Trustees is not a surprise. I know everyone in the Class joins me in wishing Dave well and offering him our congratulations. And I am sure that we take pleasure as a group in seeing the leadership of the College placed in such good hands. We have progressed together from the first days at Dartmouth and the call of "54 out" to today and "54 up" - that's up front, of course. Congratulations, Dave; we know you will wear your mantle of leadership wisely as you have always done.
I received a nice note from Madeline Murphy, telling me that she and Leo and family are now residing in Munich. Leo has been involved in the electronic and data processing business for some period of time. I assume that's what he's still doing in Europe. Madeline says all traveling Dartmouth alumni are welcome at their home in Munich at 8000 Munchen 21, Viebigplatz, West Germany.

On the West Coast, the Class of '54 is also well-represented in the medical profession. Bob Spears has just been appointed medical director of Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, an 800-bed rehabilitation hospital affiliated with the University of Southern California. Bob, a pediatrician, has been in academic medicine at the University of Southern California and affiliated with Los Angeles County Hospital for the last 15 years, the last one and a half as associate medical director. The month of December not only brought Bob news of his new position, but also the great news that his son Robert had been accepted, under early decision, in the Class of '81. Congratulations, Bob, on your new position and, of course, on your Dartmouth son!
