The influx of reportable news at this time of year is in direct proportion to the "deep freeze" which has pervaded this section of the country for the past two months.
Through the courtesy of Howard Stoughton, class secretary of 1913, we received a newspaper clipping informing us of funeral services held for Elton Norris on January 17 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. See the obituary section in this or a future issue.
In the tradition of modern sports, election to membership in a Hall of Fame represents the ultimate in personal achievement. When such an award is directed to a man in his 89th year, it becomes newsworthy. A clipping received from a recent issue of the Orlando, Fla., Sentinel Star reveals that such an honor has come to Judge Donald A. Cheney. Rollins College in Winter Haven, Fla., is establishing a sports hall of fame. Don has been selected as one of 19 alumni to be a charter member to be inducted in March. The newspaper article carries Don's picture and states that he was a 1907 graduate of the then Rollins Academy, where he played football, rowed on the first crew and was on the first track team. Other local honors include establishment of the Donald A. Cheney scholarship fund at Rollins and his present service as head of two Orange County historical organizations. Congratulations to our classmate for this notable citation. Also, our thanks to Roy A. Wesselman '27 for sending the clipping.
Following are some of the notes received in acknowledgment of recent birthday greetings:
Don Cheney: Missing our 1911 reunion last June was a great disappointment. I had looked forward to the trip only to be knocked down at the last moment. It's been mighty cold for us Florida Crackers lately, almost like the old Hanover winters."
Ray Nead: "You are doing a fine job as class secretary, and I always read your class notes with great interest." (My first experience with fan mail!)
Troy Parker: "With only 32 members left in our group, the attrition is going to be quick and serious. But we will do the best we can."
