FIFTEENTH REUNION

Normally your Mobil travel map of northern New England is pretty accurate. For example, just trace your finger across the "G" column to where it intersects the "4" column. Here, you'll discover: three red picnic benches, Joseph Smith's monument, the Appalachian Trail (dotted), the Connecticut River, six towns with the suffix "ford," nine towns with a direction in the name, a little red skier, and two interstate highways. What it doesn't show is how 110 classmates plus wives, dates, and kids squeezed onto this small, tidy square. Well, what Mobil couldn't do, Wayne Sloper did with Roadtrip '77.

Now the 15th is traditionally a very casual, carefree opportunity to renew old friendships. Roadtrip '77 proved no exception. In fact, it was so carefree and casual that all but three classmates participated in the fierce tennis and golf competitions of Saturday morning. The other three? They opted instead to indulge themselves in the sado-masochistic spectator sport known as The Class Meeting. Here, they voted in the following slate of officers for the 1977-1982 term: president, Charlie Parton; secretary, Dave Boldt; treasurer, AronGreenwald; head class agent, Bill Courtney; special events, Steve Nazro; newsletter, DaveSchaefer. Executive committee: Howie Culver, Mike Cardozo, Don McKinnon, Bob Wilson, Dave Rogers, Blake Franklin, Chris Wiedenmayer, Clark. Griffith, Larry Bailey, Al Palmer, Jack Huber, Al Davies, Wayne Sloper, Evan Lasky, Larry Harris, Geof Murphy and Ken Novack.

Soon afterwards, we all trekked to the base of Oak Hill and Storrs Pond. Frolicking and giddiness swept the crowd. Perhaps it was the beer. Later, we were able to settle down to much more serious prattle as we jumped puddles between College and Thayer Halls.

Two things were missing from the class banquet: blue ladies and Bob Blackman. Earlier in the week, the Cornell Athletic Department informed us that new Head Coach Blackman would miss the festivities. Undaunted, Wayne and his very able reunion staff, Wire Elson,Andy Allen, and Chuck Goldthwaite, cajoled Professor Terrie to join us long enough to deliver a very humorous comparison of campus slang during our years and today.

Following came a whole host of dubious achievement awards: Jock Shure, the second annual Worm-Burner Award (golf); Scott Little and Bob "Hockey" Tucker, ties with expletives quite evident; Ken Kvistad, a cushion for the long flight back to Geneva, Switzerland; and Lee Bateman, the Career Focus Award. (See the newsletter for other awards and details.)

Our Friday and Saturday night band. The Steamers, steamed up all the old favorites. Naz, who for some yet unexplained reason, used the ladies room all weekend and pulled an allnighter at the bar with Bill Purcell. Sam andRosa Cabot won the free weekend. Ann Wiedenmaver and Ted Morehouse teamed up to win the mixed doubles in tennis. (Dr. Renee Richards is rumored to have won the mixed singles.) Billand Petie Subin's kids learned how to share a bowl of cereal. (Sir Grapefellow, I hope.) Only one leisure suit was spotted all weekend, the rest having been whisked away earlier and melted down to form that new kids' product. Slime. Gerry Ashworth finally took off his Greek fisherman's hat.
