Art Williams wrote recently with news of what he terms, rather over-modestly, "an extraordinarily unimportant meeting." The gathering he referred to was of the Ad Hoc Dartmouth Club of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On hand were Art, who was doing consulting work for the Saudi government last year, and PeteStevenson, who is completing his second year of work with the Saudi Industrial Development Fund. The conclave, for reasons that were not made entirely clear in Art's note, took place at the King Faisal Dam near Riyadh, and among those present were Pete's wife Nadia and his daughters, Julia and Joanna. Despite the generally modest tone of the letter. Art did contend that it was "the most efficient meeting of Dartmouth alumni ever held in the Arabian Desert," an assertion he based on the fact that not only was it a meeting of the Ad Hoc Dartmouth Club of Riyadh, it was also a gathering of all members of the class of 1963 on the Arabian peninsula, and at least a rump session of the International Association of Dartmouth Club Presidents. (Art is president of the Tri-County Dartmouth Club of New Jersey, and Pete was apparently chosen by acclamation to head the ad hoc Arabian group.) Art, incidentally, is now apparently back at his duties as a vice president of Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner and Smith Inc., leaving the Saudis to shift for themselves in holding the western banking systems hostage.
