Dr. John McHugh has been confirmed as chief of pulmonary medicine at Holyoke Hospital, where he also serves as president of the medical staff. John is medical director of the Tuberculosis Clinic, a program funded by the state of Massachusetts and conducted at the Holyoke Hospital. His wife Ann is presently serving as vice chairman of the State Board of Education.

Another of the accomplished health-care professionals from our Class has been appointed chairman of the Pediatric Department of the Danbury Hospital, Connecticut. Dr. John Gundy left Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover to assume this position. Before returning to Hanover, Dr. Gundy had served as director of the Pediatric Clinic at Hahnoman Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. David Leibowitz also is in the news. The medical research division of American Cyanamid Company, located at Lederle Laboratories, Pearl River, New York, recently announced his appointment as associate medical director. Dr. Leibowitz has practiced in the surgical field in Tulsa, Okla., and has also focused on the related areas of infection control, burns, and emergency services.

Living and working in the Hanover area would be a coup. Therefore, special congratulations to Bob Hickin who is the new director of non-technical services of Creare Inc. in Hanover. Bob had been serving as head of the commercial loan department and as vice president of the National Bank of Lebanon.

The noticeable gap between campaign promises and the realities of politics in practice might be ah interesting topic for Chet McGuire to comment on at reunion. Suffice it to say that Chet resigned in September as head of the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Section of HUD. One of the highest-ranking black officials in the administration, he returns to his work as a housing economist in the private sector.

One of those terse Navy press releases advises that Coast Guard Commander AlanSmith has reported for duty with the first Coast Guard District office in Boston. Since Al is a native of Wareham, Mass., this is a return to home territory. Can you provide details. Com- mander?

John Blunt has a son and namesake in the freshman class at Dartmouth. News of your sons and daughters in Hanover will be welcomed.

A note from reunion co-chairman Walt Vail announcing the Class regional reunion representatives caused my thoughts to turn to reuniting our Class after 20 years. In-The LastConvertible the narrator returns for his reunion at Harvard. After pondering the pressures, motivations, and behavior of those present, he concluded that it was no wonder everyone behaved badly. My conclusion, based on three reunions previously attended and full anticipation of our 20th, is just the opposite. It is the opportunity to see our friends, their wives, and children that stands out. As we greet old friends and share the special aura of Dartmouth, consciously or unconsciously, we fall in love all over again. For modern man, the capacity to love is not of small moment. It is not what each person has achieved or failed to achieve, but that we are individually and collectively a terrific group of people. Those who earlier lost interest over ROTC, co-eds, or indian symbols will rekindle affection for a great and good institution, personalized by dear and treasured friends. It will be a golden time for those who gather. I hope you will be with us.

Friends who have agreed to contact classmates and encourage reunion attendance are assigned by region as follows: West: Kit Cowperthwaite, Joe Scott, and Dave Maryatt. Midwest: Bob Eleveld, Bob Goodell, and Dave Moss. South: Buck Latimore, Fred Pitzner, and Larry Weltin. Mid-Atlantic: George Failmezger. Pennsylvania: Clark Bittner and John Wolf. New Jersey: Don Voss. Upstate New York: John Durkin and Fred Turner. New York: Dick Roth and Norm Sylvester. Connecticut: Rog Bruttomesso, Walt Shea, and Sam Smith. New England: John Parker and Joe Slotnik.

Reunion is June 15-17, 1979.
