As the memories of the mini-reunion and the Yale game fade, it's hoped that those who could not attend the October 14 rite are preparing to amass for the fifth-year celebration!
Returning to news relayed through Treasurer Jack Thomas, a greeting from Mike Brayton recounted that since his graduation from Tuck in 1975, he has worked for Connecticut General Insurance Corporation in Hartford in their equity sales department as regional director of sales for the northeast region. Mike married Susan Attwood in August 1977 and said they were expecting their first child in October. Congratulations!
A note from Peter Brown carried an appeal "to all '74 wives in the Boston area to buy their hosiery, bodywear, and footwear from Filenes. ... I was just appointed buyer of those areas for the 12-store chain in eastern New England." Another, from Bob Whelan, admitted to his "slaving away on Wall Street with White Weld since graduation from Stanford Business School." Bob is withstanding the risks and uncertainties of the securities industry and expects to spend a few years in the San Francisco office beginning this fall.
A letter from a thoughtful relative of Charles Rosenthal conveyed the news that Chuck was in Lille, France, studying medicine as a member of the Committee for International Medical Education in a program at the Catholic University. In a memorandum to Jack, Lewis Warshauer recalled his graduation from Dartmouth Medical School in 1976 and completion of his internship at the University of Florida last year. Following that, he was involved in a residency in radiology at the Lahey Clinic in Boston as he and his wife Jan expected their first child in September (Class of 2000!). Relating news of others, Lewis wrote that Steve Koenig graduated from Cornell Medical School last year and is doing an internship at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover. He added that Warren Zwecker planned to marry Steve's sister Karen last May in Boston and to follow graduation from Boston University Medical School with training in internal medicine. Thanks for the news, Lewis!
Practicing law in San Diego and defending M.D.'s in medical malpractice actions is Dave Danielson. In a note to Jack, Dave added that, as a hobby, he has been working also on im- migration cases. Another letter, from Mike Fonner, was "to provide a little personal info to be imbellished, altered, and scandalized for purposes of informing fellow '745." Mike was headed for graduation from Harvard Divinity School with an M.Div. in June, followed by a one-year vicarage position in a West Philadelphia parish, Grace Luthern Church. In addition, Mike was to marry Leslie Weed (Columbia '75) on June 10. He related that Chip Gow was still in Singapore with Chemical Bank.
The reverse sides of dues notices served well in their roles as news-reporters. In this mode, Booker Andrews related that he had graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law and joined the Virginia bar in the summer of 1977 before joining the personal trust department of Morgan Guaranty in New York. His wife Elizabeth was attending Fordham Law School. Likewise, Thomas Hill responded that he graduated from NYU Law School in 1977 and was practicing with the firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in San Francisco. JohnHalsey said he had returned to the U.S. after two years in Sweden and that he was attending the School of Social Work at the University of California, Berkeley. John added that he was engaged part-time with Operation SAFE, a community crime-prevention program in San Francisco.
Also using a dues notice, Bruce Bilger reported that he married Jeannie Flarshbarger, graduated from the University of Virginia Law School and Graduate School of Business, and started work with Vinson & Ekins, a Houston law firm. George Reynolds sent word that he was working as associate product manager for Frito-Lay Inc. in Dallas after finishing an M.B.A. at Harvard in 1977. Fie added that Jack Huisman was then in his first year at Tuck and was to marry in August.
Another, Andrew Brown, said he graduated from Georgetown University Law School in June 1977 and began work with the Springfield, Mass., firm of Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury & Murphy. He lives in Belchertown with his wife Denise (Mt. Holyoke '74). James Regan noted that he was keeping tabs on international trade and investment issues at International Business-Government Counsellors Inc., a Washington-based consulting firm. On the side he played basketball there with Chris Pfaff.
Similarly transmitted news came from John Van Kirk, working then as assistant manager of Woodcraft Supply in Woburn, Mass. In addition to being houseparents for a dorm of 12 girls at the school where John's wife teaches, they are "proud parents" of Joshua Aaron, born October 4, 1977. Angus Scott-Fleming wrote that he accepted a job as a petroleum geologist with Amoco Production, in Denver, upon completion of an M.S. in geology from the University of Arizona last May. Also, FredPrevic noted last spring that he was in his second year of study for a Ph.D. in sensory physiology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro - with another year before starting a dissertation. He reported that BobSpitzfaden was practising law in Anchorage, Alaska (and "turning on lights at 3:00 p.m."), Brian O'Hanlon had returned from the Canal Zone and was finishing duties with the Army, Pete Moreau was teaching and coaching in a junior high school in Rhode Island, Mark Herko was performing similar tasks at Vermont Academy, and Hynes and Michelle Lund then were still in Charlottesville while Haynes finished his master's degree in architecture. Thanks for your excellent use of a small area, Fred.
More news from other dues-payers such as Steve Larmon, Tom Meyer, and Richard Brown must wait for more space. Until next month.
