Retiring Head Football Coach Jake Crouthamel '60 was the after-dinner speaker when the Dartmouth Club of Central Ohio met on November 29 in Columbus. Ken Young '48 hosted the dinner at the Worthington Hills Country Club for about 130 alumni, spouses, and prospective applicants.
Before dinner, the alumni renewed old friendships over cocktails while the high school scholars met with Coach Crouthamel to hear about the College. Jake swears he only mentioned football once in his 45 minutes of conversation with these prospective Dartmouth students (some of whom just happen to be outstanding high school athletes).
In his after-dinner remarks, Jake did talk about football, analyzing in detail the Ivy League season just ended. To conclude the evening, films of the 1977 Dartmouth-Yale game were shown by John Curtis, offensive backfield coach. John is an Ohio native, so we were glad he could bring a little Dartmouth football to our Big-Ten neighborhood.
It was announced at the meeting that The Crouthamel Award has been endowed and will be continued even though Jake is retiring from coaching. Ken Young '48 started The Crouthamel Award a few years ago to recognize each year the outstanding varsity team member from the junior class.
