Our hard-working class agent, Jim Corner, and his wife Doris took off for a two-week trip to Tortola on March 1. No doubt an effort to recharge the batteries before getting into the current Alumni Fund effort with both feet. Incidently, Jim reports that Wes Goding has taken on the task of being class coordinator with the College for the Campaign for Dartmouth.
Ed Searles, all but buried in Toledo, Ohio, snows this winter, is now principally concerned with running a shopping center, the Starlite Plaza by name. He also owns two shops in the center and two laundries elsewhere. But he has some family support, with two sons now working at his elbow in the same center.
Speaking of winter snows, Tom and SueBrooks took off one inclement weekend in January, while most hovered around the hearth, to visit his old roomy Hank Merrill and wife Mary. The trip took them from Wellesley, Mass., to the Merrill's digs in Greensboro, Vt. Naturally, there was some skiing stirred in with that marvelous mixture of nostalgia. Tom reports Hank remains busy with his general construction business in the Greensboro area. Tom also reports a visit last spring from OldsAnderson and wife, normally quartered in East Lansing, Mich. Like most of us, Tom and Sue have a bit more time for reuning these days, their three children having attained majority. Peter '76, the youngest, is in BC law school with one more year to go, and with this last commitment, Tom will be free of educational outgo. But just in case, Tom hangs in there as group vice president for Kendall Company in Boston, said company having become a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive Company five years ago.
Dave Lilly, a former president and board chairman of the Toro Company, has just been named a director of the same company and will chair the board's executive committee.
From the West Coast, Moreau Brown reports that he, Len Vines, and Clem Burnap were among those at a luncheon addressed by the new Green football coach, Joe Yukica. Moreau also reports a brief visit from JoeHoover, who was on his way to Australia on business.
About John Hess, 1673 Wavnecrest Dr., Beverly Hills, Calif. 90210, we grabbed some news from a letter he posted to prexy BertMacMannis. On March 15 he left for London for a month, on a writing assignment. He says it's a toss-up whether he'll be able to live in his New Hope, Pa., home or will be obliged to return to California for professional reasons.
