Our esteemed president Bill McElnea suggested a column about our 1944 luncheons that classmates in proximity to Hanover attend once a month. Many '44s are in retirement and have returned to the Dartmouth area and some were already working at the College. In the 1970s Rod Morgan gathered six classmates for a luncheon at the Faculty Club. It became a monthly event and many other classmates wanted to attend, including some from Connecticut, Vermont and Massachusetts. The group then moved to the Italian Gardens in Norwich, Vermont. The restaurant closed, so the group moved to the Norwich Inn, where it still meets today. The same waitress, Robin, also moved to the inn and has been serving us for 17 years. Sad to say, as time has moved on, there are fewer men attending the luncheon. The classmates invited the widows to join them, so an average number is between 12 and 20 at a meeting. Conversation continues to be just as lively: remembrances of years attending college; news of other classmates and Dartmouth; information about upcoming minis and this years plans for the coming 65th reunion in October. Any classmate who is in town on the third Tuesday of a month is welcome to come to the Norwich Inn at noon. We would love to have you and you will enjoy it.
We regret to report the death of John Worley LaBounta. Condolences are sent to his family and friends.
