The first piece of interplanetary mail from the nose cone of last month's rocket was from Ed Matthews and it was full of news so let me repeat it as is, "Let us turn back the pages of history to: June, 1959, John Farley, Pete Nessen, and I graduated from Tuck while Bob Sterling finished Thayer School. George Stern is in Hanover taking courses for admission to Medical School. Bill Springer graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is taking up further studies at Harvard Medical. Jim Parkes also made the trip from Dartmouth to Harvard Med. as did Jim McDowell.
"I spent the entire summer in Hanover, taking various side trips to the lakes in the region. Also took a trip out west going by way of Montreal to Sault Ste. Marie, and out to Minneapolis. I saw John Donnelly who is engaged to Karen Severnson and working for Minneapolis Honeywell. Also heard that Wayne Kakela is back in the US and presently recuperating from a bad fever attack that was contracted while he was in Mexico.
"I also took a trip to Dick Schramm's wedding to Daisy Sharpies. Doug Brew was an usher and is still in the Marines. Also there with me were Bill Springer, George Stern, Dave Isaacson, and Charlie Schneider. Dave is presently working in New York as a television production assistant. Charlie is in Industrial Sales with National Carbon in New York. Jim Parkes spent the summer as a navy intern at the Newport (R. I.) Naval Hospital. While in Hanover I ran into Dave Orr who is working for the Valley News and will shortly be married, if not already.
"Bob Hall and his wife Lucia are now settled in Plainfield, N. J., with their new baby. Bob is with Smith, Barney, & Co., Wall Street Brokers. I was also pleased to see Monte Pascoe and his wife, Pat. They were in Hanover for two days before driving west to Denver and Stanford Law School. They had just returned from six weeks in Europe, and claim that it is an easy process to see Europe economically. Bob King and his wife, Dottie, were in New York this summer where Bob was working for Shearson Hammill & Co., investment brokers. Bob is finishing his last year at Stamford Business School and then contemplates working for S&H on a permanent basis." A letter like that is wonderful. Why don't you sit down and write one. After all, if you don't, who will?

On the business side of life Gary Gilson has joined the staff of station WBRY, Boston, as copy chief and news and sports editor. Gary has recently gotten out of the Marines. Walt Burgin who is a member of the Mercersburg faculty, is teaching part time in mathematics at Wilson College. On top of all of this Walt is a candidate for his Ph.D. at Princeton.
If you are interested in money take a note from Bill Edgerton who, at the Harvard School of Design with eleven classmates are building a small, self-designed housing project on a five-and-a-half-acre tract. At the end of the summer Bill collected $900 for his labor and a share in the profits from the sale of the houses that they designed and built. In the business world I too have trudged ever onward and am now working in MONY's newest New York City agency about two blocks from the Dartmouth Club. Alas, I am a commuter, but would love to have lunch with any or all of you. Phorie-YU6-0280.
I am sorry to report that Ben Bixby is in the Boston Children's Hospital (Division 36), 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, Mass.
