JUNE 1978 WALTER F. FURMAN

John and Jennie Hinman returned with the birds from Florida, where they spent a good part of the winter and are safely esconced in their home in Pelham. They both expect to be in Hanover in June for the reunion.

John Hinman reports receiving a letter from Porter Lowe, who has been a somewhat silent member of the Class. Porter writes that he has been living with his son Brent for the past seven years in La Jolla, Calif. He says that with the help of his son and his doctor he has been leading a normal life and takes a ten-minute walk daily. He is blessed with four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, visits from all of whom he can enjoy.

Word has come of the death of "Lish"Winslow on April 15 at East Falmouth, Mass. An obituary notice will appear soon in the MAGAZINE. In the meantime, the Class sends its sincere sympathy to his widow Fannie and the other survivors.

We have just learned that the last of the three Thompsons in the Class, John, died last February in New York. He left no survivors, and his few remaining classmates can only say, "Hail and Farewell."

A most interesting letter has arrived from Shirley, daughter of our Tom McAllister. It includes short accounts of Tom and Ethel's eleven grandchildren. In view of the constant dearth of class news, wouldn't it be smart to consider a project which involved collecting from present classmates, widows, and children information for the files concerning the various grandchildren?

Tom's grandchildren are particularly interesting for the thread of muscial talent which runs through the group. David, the oldest, a teacher, is also a folk dancer and a maker of and performer on balalaikas. Thomas, among other activities, is guest conductor of the American Ballet Theatre, and others in the group play on various musical instruments.

Shirley says her father celebrated his 92nd birthday happy with children and grandchildren. She says he does twelve pushups every morning (I wish I had the fortitude to do likewise) and is in remarkably good health. He is considering going to the coming reunion but needs a little encouragement. Let's all start working on him.
