May: the first guaranteed month of spring in Hanover, spanning from the last of the melting snow and thawing doggy fertilizer on the Green to the assembly of the graduation stage on Baker. Lawn; the fifth month of 12.

Twenty-nine: the age most of us '9os are turning (or have turned) this year; the last year of our twenties. Assuming a life expectancy of 87 years, that puts us, theoretically speaking, in our fifth "month" of 12.

We, the class of 1990, are in the month of May. And what are we doing with our- selves? Well, I don't know about you, but I just went out and saw the new version of Star Wars, and I just got back to write this column.

Little did I know that Bill Hess is living right near me in Chicago, "having been lured here to go to Northwestern for grad school in biomedical engineering." He received his master's degree two years ago and has been working as a mechanical engineer for a product development consulting firm located in downtown Chicago. Last year he married a wonderful woman named Wendy, who, after working in N.Y.C. for a while, moved to Chicago, switched careers, and is now aiming for medical school. Bill's bottom line: "Life has been good. Chicago is pretty fun."

John Seelert was spotted in the Darien (Conn.) Times. In December he became an associate with the law firm of Rucci, Burnham, Carta & Edelberg in Stamford, Conn. John graduated magna cum laude from Washington and Lee School of Law. Prior to joining Rucci, Burnham, Carta & Edelberg, John practiced with Smith, Helms, Mulliss & Moore in Greensboro, N.C.

He will concentrate his practice in the areas of real estate, zoning, and business law. In addition to being admitted to practice in Connecticut he is also a member of the North Carolina bar. John lives in Oenoke Ridge, Conn., with his wife, Susan, and their one-year-old daughter.

Last fall James Griesse became a member of the foreign language department at the John Carroll School in Bel Air, Md., where he teachs first- and second-year Spanish. He received a master's in Spanish language and literature from the University of Maryland last summer. Talking of tongues, Ann McDevitt reportedly now speaks just about all Slavic languages and is particularly fluent in both Polish and Russian.

Speaking of Hawaii, Jackie Kangley works in management at a Four Seasons Hotel in Maui. (Perhaps our next class reunion doesn't have to be in Hanover. How many rooms in your hotel, Jackie?)

Mike Kanarick is currently the finance director of the New Jersey Democratic Party. According to Bruce Sacerdote, "Mike will be traveling to Beijing to be honored by the Chinese government and to accept an award for his outstanding fundraising work on behalf of the Democratic Party. Mike pioneered the concept of using larger paper bags to collect the donations." Thank you, Bruce.

In closing I would just like to say that when you turn 29, you are actually commencing your 30th year of life. Make it a good one. I would also like to say that StarWars looks a lot different when we are 29 than it did when we were eight, don't you think?
