The summer's mail has brought a variety of news concerning classmates. Dick Shribman has been elected a director of the Massachusetts Electric Company. Dick is president of two real estate management firms and a trustee of the Salem Savings Bank. Active in civic and service organizations, he is a recipient of the Lynn Chamber of Commerce's distinguished service award, and is a founder and former president of the North Shore Tennis Club. Dick is also a member of the '47 executive committee and a class agent for the Alumni Fund.

With the approach of the national political battles, it has been announced that our own class president, Walter Peterson, no stranger to political strife, has been named to chair the New Hampshire Baker Presidential Campaign Committee.

Alan Zeller has returned from Ghana to become the new medical director of the Bath Ironworks. Alan spent five years in Ghana as chief medical officer for the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation. Before that, he was medical director for the CARE-MEDICO Hospital in Afghanistan. Besides being a graduate of Dartmouth College and McGill University Medical School, Alan also graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and has done ten years of sea duty.

Thanks to John Rose '28 for the following partial clipping from the San Diego Union: "To District Attorney Edwin Miller and his superb staff for their perseverance, to the jury which labored endless hours in their pursuit of justice unintimidated by the growing reputation formerly held by an arrogant crook who would substitute his paranoia for inexcuseable criminal activities." Mr. Rose then went on to comment: "For a local D.A. who courageously exemplifies the College's purpose of producing men and women with a high' potential for making a significantly positive impact on society."

Across the country, in New York City, I.B.M. is currently building a 43-story edifice on Madison Avenue. Project manager for this major job is Kendrick Kelly. Also from the East Coast came a letter from Doug Burch, mentioning that he and his wife Elton combined a speech to the Food Industry Sales Managers Club in Los Angeles with a trip to Hawaii. While there, in spite of the worst weather in 98 years, they wound up as one-third partners in a HUI, owning several condo units on the island of Kauai's spectacularly beautiful north coast. Any '47 interested in trading a couple of weeks of the North Country for Hawaii, give Doug a call. He also says that "daughter Wendy's wedding was fun, beautiful, and awesome; until now, I thought a college education was expensive!" And in the mail from New England Advertising Week was an announcement that Doug, who works for Creative Media Services, has been elected president of the Advertising Club of Fairfield County for 1979-1980.

Along with bringing you the good news, it is my sad task to also report the passing of three classmates — Emmett Jergensen, GeorgeWoodward, and Walter Barnum. The class joins me in extending our deepest sympathy to their families.
