Year number five of the '75 class notes begins similarly to years number four, three, and two since graduation, with congratulations to Head Agents Sandy Tierney and Rick Waddell, all class agents, and all members of the class who once again did an outstanding job in the 1979 Alumni Fund. Although for the first time we did not win our Green Derby competition on the basis of participation, we did lead the division in total dollars collected with $14,169 (an increase of $2,556 from last year). The average contribution from the members of the class of '75 was $31.84. We should all take pride in these results.
The year 1980 is significant for '75s because we have a reunion scheduled. As a result, we now have a reunion chair. His name is Jeff"Chick" Little and he has already started making plans for next year. The dates for the formal reunion in Hanover are June 13-15, 1980. You will be hearing more about this in the future. Also, mini-reunions are planned for the Harvard, Yale, and Columbia football games. Jeff informs me that he is hoping to have a tent at each of these games.
For some reason, the summer months (when no class notes are published) always seem to bring much news. People have recently received advanced degrees, gone to work, or gotten married. This past summer was no exception.
Let's start with the weddings, of which there were many (including my own, but someone else can write about that — all I remember is the photographer). On June 9, John Reed and Brita Ann Sardella '76 were married in Lynnfield, Mass. Brita will be at Dartmouth Med School and John, who received a degree from Tuck School, will assume a marketing position with Dartmouth Time Sharing Systems Inc. JohnLowell and Carrie Lewis were married on May 5 in Bridgton, Maine. John and Carrie own and operate the. Highlander Motel in Bridgton. The 1904 garden at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., was the scene of the marriage between Laurel Lynn Updegraff and Greg Hakanen. The bride is a May graduate of Mt. Holyoke and the groom is pursuing an M.B.A. at Stanford.
John Hellinger '73 sent the following. "On May 19, E Bell married Barbara Books (Wellesley '75, Dartmouth exchange 1973-74) in Mechanicsburg, Pa. E's best man was John Hellinger '73 and Barb's maid of honor was her sister Elizabeth Books (Wellesley '73, Dartmouth exchange 1971-72). Among the wedding guests were Pat Moore and Karen Lindfors, who had been married one week earlier in Louisville, Ky. Barb, Pat, and Karen graduated on May 13 from the University of Louisville Medical School, where E is a senior. Pat and Karen begin residencies at Boston City Hospital and Barb begins hers in Louisville in July. Attending a party given by the Bells for Barb and E in Louisville the week before the wedding were Tali Arik '77 and Eric Pearl."
At last report, two '75s were engaged to be married. Karen LaCerda and Paul Andrew were to be married on August 18 in Westwood, Mass. I'm hoping for an update. Karen is currently studying for her M.B.A. at the Wharton School. She received her master's degree in education from Harvard in 1976. Her finace is a marketing representative for McDonnell Douglas Automation Company. He graduated in 1971 from West Point and in 1979 from Wharton. He is a veteran of six years' service in the Army, including two and a half years in Korea.
Mike Marlette is engaged to Martha Burns; they plan a December I wedding. Martha attended Skidmore and Cooper Union and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in New York. She is with Manufacturers Hanover Leasing Corporation. Mike is a credit analyst with Banco Real S.A. in New York.
Now, on to graduations. Ed White received his doctor of medicine degree from Boston University on May 20. He is a surgical resident at the Tufts New England Medical Center Hospital in Boston, where he plans to subspecialize in orthopedics.
Eric Batson was awarded his M.D. degree on June 2 from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He is currently in a graduate program at Eastern Virginia School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Va. Eric is engaged to Elizabeth Wright, who also received an M.D. from Medical College of Pennsylvania.
Zenas Hutcheson was granted an M.B.A. on June 15 by the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Zenas will be employed as a management consultant by Bain and Company in Boston.
On May 18, 77 new physicians were awarded M.D. degrees by the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Among them were JohnBritton, Bob Dray, and Phil Cote.
Mark Kersting received his law degree from Boston University and recently joined the firm of Springer & Langson, P.C. He is a staff attorney at the Springer & Langson Legal Center in Framingham, Mass.
That's it for this month. Thanks again to all '75s for their Alumni Fund contributions this year. Don't forget those mini-reunions!
