This is being written on the road, as I return from a business trip to Washington. My deadline was yesterday. The mail and the files are out of reach at home. All of which explains why you get only a bobtailed column this month, plus my apologies.

What we'll do is clean up the last of the over- the-summer backlog. Berkshire Life Insurance Company in Pittsfield, Mass., has promoted George Denny to overall head of the company's underwriting department. George, who lives in nearby Richmond, Mass., joined Berkshire in 1952 and has been director of underwriting since 1971.

In July, Gene Stollerman was appointed to the National Advisory Allergy and Infectious Diseases Council, a panel of distinguished physicians and scientists that helps make policy dealing with those classes of ailments for the National Institute of Health. Gene chairs the Department of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical College in Memphis and also works as a consultant to a number of Memphis hospitals and a variety of government and military health organizations. His specialty is bacterial diseases.

Finally, a baker's dozen of address changes to report. Last heard of in Afghanistan, DougAtwood is now country director for CARE in New Delhi, India. Zeke Billings has moved a little further out on the Connecticut shore, from Madison to 7 Church Street, Old Saybrook, Conn. 06475. Leaving Connecticut behind is Dick Borella. He's re-established at Route #1, Box 252, Hourglass Drive East, Crystal River, Fla. 32629. Lee Bye has shifted from Yardley, Pa., to Yacht and Country Club, 41 Westside Drive, Rehobeth Beach, Del. 19971.

If our information is correct, Gardner Cook is moving against the flow. Formerly in North Palm Beach, Fla., he's now listed at 5044 North McKinley Road, #B-12, Flushing, Mich. 48433. Bob Evans goes from Bronxville, N.Y., to Box 4117, Milford, Conn. 06460. I'm not certain this is a new address, but it was furnished as such, so I'll pass it on: Ed Fell is at 160 Club Cours Drive, Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29928. From Greensboro, N.C., Bob Koenig has gone north to 211 Norwood Avenue, Beach Haven, N.J. 08008. And from Durham, N.C., Danny Provost has headed up to 100 Paragon Drive, Montvale, N.J. 07645.

Bob Lempke leaves Guilford, Conn., to join the Rhode Island contingent at Border Avenue, Green Hill, R.I. 02879. Chuck Rothermel seems to have switched from boats to golf. He used to live in Big Canoe, Ga., and now his home is 310 17th Fairway, Rosnell, Ga. 30076. Ray Seabury has moved from Wilbraham, Mass., to 25 Dover Road, Longmeadow, Mass. 01106.

And architect Joe Wilkes drifts seaward from Silver Spring, Md., to 1720 West Winchester Road, Annapolis, Md. 21401.
