A long letter from Doug Melville reveals the fact that he and Joan chucked it all and migrated from Pittsburgh to Manchester, Vt., where they have become neophyte innkeepers. In December they became the proud owners of the Kandahar Lodge and Resort Motel, "2150 feet high in the beautiful Green Mountains."

After 24 years with J. &. L. Steel, Doug resigned last July because he felt "there was more." He received several very interesting job offers, including the opportunity to serve as the national tournament director for the Professional Golfers Association for 1979 and later national championship. This offer was undoubtedly a result of the fine job Doug did as chairman of admissions for the 1978 national championship, which was held at Oakmont in Pittsburgh.

After weighing this glamorous possibility, he and Joan decided to become Vermont entrepreneurs. The brains of the outfit is Son Hunter '78 who heads up marketing, is assistant manager, and also tends bar. Kandahar is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Hanover and the Melvilles have hosted many friends already. Since the March issue of this publication contained a paid ad, the foregoing plug will undoubtedly escape the censor's pencil.

Dr. Al Schwartz, our physician-author, has proven that his publisher can read his handwriting even if the local druggist can't. His new book, Travel at its Best, is advertised as "the ultimate guidebook - the one that, rather than simply listing restaurants, hotels, beaches, and night spots, provides a definitive answer to any traveler's most critical questions."

Al and his family have traveled more than 100,000 miles testing the most highly-rated vacation spots and wilderness areas.

Web Wilde writes that John Dell Isola, who has been flying for TWA for io these many years, has been promoted to captain. Its too bad we don't have a picture of John to run here, but you all know what the new captain looks like - crooked smile but straight teeth, etc.

We've also received word that Jim Nelsen's oldest daughter Kathy was married in December. If Kathy plans to have a family she should be aware that she'll create the youngest- looking grandfather in history.

As you read this column our 25th is more than a year away, yet already your reunion committee has firmed up many of the arrangements. You should start planning now to be sure you arrive in Hanover on June 12, 1980, before the beer runs out.

Keep in touch.
