Amy and I have just returned from Freshman Parents Weekend. This is a totally student-produced affair and I marvel at the time devoted to this, what with the tremendous workload they have. Highlights of the weekend were a Friday evening program at Thompson Arena with addresses by Dean of Freshman Karen Blank, President Kemeny, James Vahey '82 (chairman for the class), plus songs by the Glee Club. This was followed by dormitory receptions. On Saturday morning there was a panel discussion with representatives of the various college constituencies participating. The evening program was divided into two parts. A slide show produced by the class showing the many varied activities that make up the life of a Dartmouth freshman was technically superb and of great interest. From Webster Hall we journeyed back to Hopkins Center and a cabaret show with a cast of 45 students. This was most original and much fun. Planning was done even to the point of producing a beautiful New England spring weekend.

On Friday, April 13, Russ Dilks was a participant in Law Alumni Day at Dartmouth. It was held at the Common Ground area of Collis Center and was attended by better than 100 students. In addition to Russ, participants included Sterry Waterman '22, federal judge of the United States Court of Appeals; Clarke Lyon '43, partner in a Holyoke, Mass., law firm; Kate Pressman '73, law clerk to Justice Byron White of the Supreme Court; Michael Hollis '75, an attorney in Atlanta; George Jepsen '76, pursuing a joint J.D./M.A. program at Harvard; and Jane Barry '78, a first-year student at Yale Law School. According to Russ, "The purpose is to expose undergraduates to the various aspects of the field of law. Panelists described their careers, listed factors which influenced their decisions, and shared these experiences which should be helpful to students considering careers in law."

Larry W. Guild II, president Of Guild Sales Corp., has become a selectman in Gilford, N.H. Larry is a 35-year resident of Gilford and has served in many other town positions in the past, including a term on the budget committee, a member of the Gilford Village Water District Commission, and on the Gilford Building Needs Committee. Larry and wife Martha have three children - Jane, Mindy, and Meg - who attend Gilford schools.

This does it for the season. Have a great summer and we'll see you in the fall. My column is getting shorter and shorter; the cupboard is bare. Please fill me in. So long for now.
