ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZ. Wishing I could catch some. Can't sleep. Column due. No articles, no notes, no cards. Then it struck me. Z. Zakin, Zebroski, Zelnick, Zemlin, Zimmanck, Zins, Zischke, Zsitvay.

I interrupted Harry Zelnick's daughter's birthday party for a little Dartmouth news. He and his family live in Short Hills but he works for Stamford Capital in Stamford, Conn. Luckily the investment boutique doesn't require much time in the main office so his commute is not the bear it might be. Harry says he's "leading a nice life, enjoying himself." I hope everyone enjoyed the party, too.

When I reached Ray Zemlin he was out playing hoops with his two sons. Between dishes to them and ski trips to Loon Mt., he practices securities and corporate finance law for Goodwin, Proctor & Hoar in Boston. He still keeps up with roommate Keith George in Minneapolis but stays closer to his classmates from Cornell Law. I can imagine you develop some close friends during three grey years studying law in Ithaca. Speaking of Minneapolis, Susanne Lilly Hutcheson was recently named to the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Minnesota/South Dakota. A former commercial banker, Susanne is now a fulltime at-home mom looking after her three kids and juggling volunteer projects.

Dr. Steve Zebroski wasn't home but I did get his answering service. I thought of leaving a message but had a flash of my dad returning service calls on weekends and having to rush off to the hospital so I let it go.

Dr. Robert Zimmanck's office had one of those intense voice mail systems which I got hung up in. You know the kind where they don't offer the alternative you want and keep sending you back to the first option. After a few minutes I ordered a truckload of Maalox and had it delivered to Rob's home address in Chicago.

I couldn't reach Gary Zebroski either. Two Zebroskis in the same class. Is this a common name I'm not aware of? They're not from the same town and their freshmen book pictures show no similarities so I assume they're not family. Gary and his family live in Oklahoma City, where he works for Phi Technologies.

Working the freshmen book, I discovered that Pat Corren Zins roomed next to Gary in Little Hall. Those were radical days. Shared bathrooms. Communal living. Whew! Now Pat's living in Westport. Conn., long a hotbed of progressive thinking. Unfortunately, she wasn't home either.

I tried a bunch of other Z classmates to no avail. I did manage to reach DaveWright here in Oakland and it turns out he coaches soccer and goes to the same gym as my brother. Dave admitted to not getting there as often as he should. Even though it was Sunday I assured him he need not confess his sins to me. Dave's been in the Bay Area for about IS years and has a thriving home contracting business. He was planning a get-together with Kevin Lally in the next couple weeks. Kevin practices law and lives in neighboring Orinda. Steve Saglio wrote a note of a get-together with classmate Mike Carey. They shared a dinner prepared by "Chateau du Petit Caesar" accompanied by a nice Napa Chardonnay. This dinner took place after Steve and "Milo" discovered they were neighbors in Monterey County for more than three years.

I'll sleep better tonight knowing I've met another deadline. But if I end up counting sheep next month, I'm worried. Our class has one Shepherd (Wendy) but no sheep. Sweet dreams.
