We are well into the 1977 edition of the Alumni Fund and Jim Bovaird has certainly put together an impressive list of regional and fraternity head agents - 40 in all. Our Class hasn't won the Green Derby since 1967 and this should be the year. Wouldn't that be great!

After our tremendous reunion effort to come back as leaders in our division. We all know all the reasons for supporting Dartmouth so now let's give our support.

During the course of rounding up agents for the fund drive, Jim received two letters that I think should be shared with everyone. They state what it is all about. From Sam Chu at Ohio State University the following is excerpted: "Your March 10 letter was a surprise, but one which was not unpleasant. I'm so busy and over-committed that I have no business taking on any more tasks (for I never take on anything without trying to do the best I can). Still, Dartmouth is something special, and I've been kicking myself ever since I had to back out of our 25th. So, in partial expiation for that lapse, I'll do it."

And from Mexico the following was received from Alfonso Estrada: "Thank you for your letter of February 21, and your invitation for me to collaborate as class agent of Region M.... Looking back to my years at Dartmouth, and reflecting upon the immense educational needs in my country, I come to realize that superior education of the... quality provided for at our college is to be supported and promoted no matter where its location, and... irrespective of geographic border lines. Indeed,... institutions similar to our alma mater are sanctuaries of learning and beacons for intellectual activity of the world. You can be assured of my best effort "i the imminent campaign."

Let us all give our best efforts!

Hugh Johnson, who put together our great reunion seminar, writes that he and Suzanne are once again off to the Yucatan. They will work as study leaders on four Smithsonian Institute trips to the Yucatan and also to Guatemala.

From Loeb Rhoades & Co. in New York a report from Ralph Watkins. He is in charge of annuities and insurance sales for the firm. "Everything is very confused - brokers trying to become insurance men, banks trying to become brokers, etc. Insurance on Wall Street isn't really insurance. It's a great field - a constant full-court press with an array of hybrid investments with insurance aspects. Revenues are mounting like there's no tomorrow - and who knows, on Wall Street, there may not be. So far two firms have gone out from under me and every so often I grow tired of living by my wits. And then there's always the Long Island Railroad at one below zero."

Our man in Los Angeles, Wes Nutten, has been politicing again. He has been elected to the Flintridge Preparatory School board of trustees as well as the board of trustees of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation.

So long for now.
