Bob Ross, working on his doctorate at Yale, will be spending over a year in Italy, gathering material for a dissertation on crisis in the Italian University System. He. has been awarded both Fullbright-Hays and Social Sciences Research Council grants to do so. Greg (Iggy) Olchowski, an attorney in Green-field, Mass., is a Republican candidate for a three-year term as library trustee. He serves in the position now, having been appointed in October 1978 to fill the unexpired term of a former trustee. Congratulations to Fred andSally Floberg on the birth of Frederic Forrest, their first child, on March 31.

Seeing the movie Deerhunter last night reminded me of a recent letter from Peter Diamond, back from the Far East, where he was "kicking around what was left of Indochina." Upon completion of a residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Pittsburgh, Peter took a job running several wards of the Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital in Hong Kong, doing mostly polio and tuberculosis surgical reconstruction. He left there in November 1978 and toured Malaysia, Thailand, and the Peoples Republic of China, returning to Hong Kong in January and subsequently to Maui, where he practices orthopedics and plans to stay indefinitely. For those who trip to the environs of Hawaii, Peter works for the Maui Medical Group, with offices in Wailuku and Lahaina on Maui.

More news from the Dartmouth Anthropology Notes on Chris Williams and David Goldenberg. Since Chris returned from Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji in October 1973, he has worked as a cook, waiter, driving instructor, office supply salesman, and Amway distributor. Still involved in the last two of these, he covers the U.S. and even has an account in White River Junction! The job also includes the beauty of being able to take ample time off, which afforded Chris a six-week tour of Egypt, Greece, England, and Scotland last year. He was able to visit his sister who teaches at an American school in Cairo, and in southern Egypt took to the Nile River and visited the historically significant locations of Karnak, Luxor, Thebes, Aswan, and Abu Simbal. Chris normally resides in Studio City, Calif.

David Goldenberg, of Providence, went to Kenya in 1974 to do his dissertation research for Brown University. After a year of research and learning the language, his research came to a rapid halt for "unclear" reasons, at the request of the Kenya government. In any event, David returend to the U.S. via Israel and England and commenced teaching for two years at University of Rhode Island Extension Division in Providence. He took one term off and spent three months in Israel, visiting family and living on a kibbutz in the northern Negev. He has since taught a course related to kibbutz living at Brown University.

Finally, I spoke with Rich DuMoulin at Ogden Marine in NYC. He and Lee Reichart are already laying plans to share a house during Block Island race week and of course will be doing a massive amount of sailing as usual.
