Happy holidays! On the Hanover scene, Julian (Chip) Green, a former Alpha Theta thrush and map librarian at Dartmouth (while working on a master's degree in geology), has been accepted to the Simmons College Graduate School of Library Science and awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the New England Library Association. On September 28, Steve Calvert was named director of the Dartmouth Alumni College and of Dartmouth Seminars. Since graduation, Steve served as a naval officer, earned a Ph.D. in English from Rutgers, and has taught as a visiting and adjunct professor in the English department at Dartmouth.

On the political scene, Alan Raymond was named press secretary to Governor Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts in September. Al had been working for the Dukakis administration since March '76 as deputy press secretary and moved up when his boss resigned to join the Jimmy Carter campaign. Al was formerly news director at WGBH radio and a reporter and producer for WGBH television in Boston. This is only part of the good news ... a daughter Alyssa was born to Charlotte and Al on September 16.

On September -30, the FTC announced staff appointments in the Bureau of Consumer Protection, which included none other than our own politician par excellence . . . Bob Reich. Bob was named assistant director for evaluation, and as such will be "working with staff attorneys and economists to develop case and rule selection criteria to assist the commission in choosing program areas of highest consumer benefit." He will also be responsible for "developing new programs, monitoring existing programs and undertaking impact evaluations of programs as they are completed." Bob is a graduate of Yale Law School, clerked for chief judge Frank M. Coffin, U.S. Court of Appeals for the first circuit, and prior to his FTC appointment was assistant to the solicitor general, U.S. Department of Justice. Bob's wife Clare is an assistant professor of law at American University in Washington. It is heartwarming to see the involvement of class members in political circles ... we wish you the best!

Dr. Dick Anderson completed his residency at Mary Hitchcock last July and has joined the department of radiology at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, N.H. Sam Swisher was united with the former Pauline B. Snyder on September 4 in Framingham, Mass. Both Sam and his wife hold master's degrees . . . Pauline in psychiatric social work from B.U. and Sam an M.B.A. from Tuck. Gary Horlick is back in Washington, D.C., and practicing law with Steptoe and Johnson after three years in Chile, Argentina and Colombia. He has encountered a host of classmates in D.C. including Clark Wadlow, Roger Witten, Bill Kolasky and Bill Adler.

I had a delightful Saturday, October 30, with Tom and Mia Laughlin at the Hunt Races in Far Hills, N.J. Although I know little about horses and racing, I was in good hands as Mia is a former New Jersey riding champion and has won enough trophies and ribbons to decorate the main floor of the Hanover Inn. The tailgating atmosphere, the excitement and beauty of the races, combined with the opportunity to gamble, made for a fine day. Tom is currently product manager for the Cricket Lighter at the Gillette Company in "Boston and Mia in the advertising business with the Hill, Holliday Connors and Cosmopulos agency in Boston.

Finally, I am saddened to inform you of the death of classmate James L. Price on October 11 in Canton, N.Y.
