It felt like spring yesterday ... I didn't need a wool cap, birds danced in the trees, my daughter spotted a daffodil fighting through the soil, and my wife handed me the clippers and pointed to the backyard. Ah, spring!

So, naturally, we have a marriage to report, thanks to Bob Hermann. Bob and Diane Werbe tied the knot in late' January in Manhattan. Diane is an associate producer at CBS News and Bob is deputy first assistant attorney general of New York State.

George Detlefsen is now an information systems consultant in San Francisco. Nothing unusual about that, particularly since George went to Thayer after graduation and then earned a Ph.D. in computer science at Manchester University in England, before working for a number of years as General Electric's computer systems trouble shooter. What is a bit unusual is that George, in his own words, dropped out for about three-and-a-half years to become a "dervish" and a "moonie." He spent a good deal of time living and working at the Creative Community Project in Sonoma County, meditating, reading, talking, and supervising construction of a new state-of-the-art sewer system (really water-saving toilets, that sort of thing). He's back now, with experiences to share at 1153 Bush Street, San Francisco.

Alan Ryan has been appointed deputy director of the Office of Special Investigations of the Department of Justice, a newly-created office designed to coordinate the federal government's efforts to locate, denaturalize, and deport Nazi war criminals. Before that A 1 was assistant to the solicitor general.

Dave Owens has formed a new venture in North Kingstown, R.I. Kane Corporation sells antique clocks and old and new firearms. Dave remains as vice president of Kane Motorcar Company, a repairer and restorer of old cars. He's also treasurer of the Rhode Island Beekeepers Association.

Charlie Wilmont, a partner with the Stamford, Conn., insurance firm of Lewis and Wilmont Associates, has been named to chair the Stamford-Greenwich region in the Campaign for Dartmouth, the major capital gift drive now in progress. Charlie has been active in recent years in the local Dartmouth club.

We're all captains of our own 1980 Alumni Fund effort. Give, and please give generously. But save a few dollars to spend at reunion, June 13-15 in Hanover. Bring the family and show them where you got to be so smart.
